Answer & Explanation:I have done the essay however my professor does not think it is persuasive enough. So here are some points to add to this essay. Please revise my essay and to it what she needs, or if you feel like doing a different paper with some of the information I have provided that is fine as well. You could argue that the government needs to devote more money and resources to stopping it, then support your argument by explaining how prevalent it is, how many cases were prosecuted and how many cases were are never caught. You could compare the human costs of trafficking to other issues the government focuses on and argue that this is just as or more important. Here are some steps to follow:Introductory paragraph, including a clear, concise thesis state states your argument on the issue.Body paragraphs that include support for your thesis that is based on research, not personal opinion or personal experience. You should include cited evidence from research in every body paragraph. You can have as many supporting body paragraphs as you want. One paragraph of counterargument, including research, and your rebuttal of the counterargument.Concluding paragraph that briefly restates the reasons you gave to support your thesispersuasive_essay_draft.docx

Stand up and Fight Against Human Sex Trafficking
“The first 20 or so times were the hardest. Then you sort of get used to it and you
don’t think as much about it. “ – Survivor of child sex trafficking in Kansas City,
Missouri. Can you imagine being in love at 12 years old with an older boy, he buys you
gifts and takes you to the best parties, and shows you off to his friends? You dream of
getting married and having children to end then up far away from home, beaten, raped,
and owned. What I have described is the story of over 80% of sex human trafficking
victims. I will discuss the definition of sex trafficking, why it still exists, and how to
prevent and help fight against human trafficking. Human Sex Trafficking is not about
movement it is about slavery itself. We often wonder why this disgusting act towards
these young girls and boys still exists. The truth is it could be your neighbor, friend from
school, or even your family. I worked for a major, not for profit organization in New
York City where I assisted women and men victims of Human Trafficking, rape, sexual
assault, and domestic violence. I have years of experience working with these types of
victims and will discuss the importance of this violation of Human Rights.
To define trafficking is “the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or
receipt of persons. The means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of
abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power. A position of vulnerability or of
Lozada 2
the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having
control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation”(Unodc.org). To have a
better understanding, I will provide two definitions that further expand the understanding
of human trafficking. Slave trading can be defined as the process of acquiring, recruiting,
harboring, receiving, or transporting an individual, by any means and for any distance,
into a condition of slavery or slave-like exploitation (Kara, 2009). Slavery can be defined
as the process of coercing labor or other services from a captive individual, through any
means, including exploitation of bodies or body parts (Kara, 2009).
Human trafficking is a crime that is fed by poverty, inadequate education and
opportunity, discrimination, and the demand for cheap sex. This is a crime that
transforms cultures, class, and geography. It is best defined as modern-day slavery. At
least 20.9 million adults and children are bought and sold worldwide into commercial
sexual servitude, forced labor and bonded labor (equalitynow.org). Almost 6 in 10
identified trafficking survivors were trafficked for sexual exploitation, and women and
girls make up 98% of victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation.
I will now break down the anatomy of sex trafficking into two factors: slave
trading produces supply side of the sex trafficking industry. Slavery shows the demand
side. Within these factors, there are three steps: acquisition, movement, and exploitation.
Acquisition of sex slaves usually occurs in five ways, deceit, and sale by family,
abduction, seduction, romance, or recruitment from former slaves. The movement is
where slaves are taken from the rural area to and urban area in the same country then
taken out internationally. The reason this is done in this two-step process is so that the
Lozada 3
slaves’ soul was broken before they are made abroad; this gives the traffickers assurance
that slaves are less likely to escape, and they could charge a higher price in the brothels.
The exploitation of sex slaves is the violent persuasion of the movement. Slaves are
raped, beaten, tortured, drugged, and starved during transportation. This occurs so that
the slaves become submissive, and the traffickers seek pleasure from this process.
The question is why does Sex Slavery continue to Thrive? Despite all of the media
attention, policy changes, and law enforcement it almost feels like nothing has changed.
The answer is simple, profitability and minimal risk. Sex slavery is illegal in every
country in the world, and the risks should be understood, but as long as sex trafficking is
profitable it will continue. We must still think of the absence of the real risk in our law
enforcement, philosophical, legal, and police. This may include: confusion of the
definition of trafficking, corruption of law enforcement, border control and judicial
systems, lack of international coordination, lack of specific law-enforcement focus on
slave-related crimes, minimal persecution of sex traffickers, insufficient protection for
victims, whose testimony is required to convict sex traffickers, and ineffective laws that
have little effect on sex traffickers.
If you can just think for one second what these slaves endure and the fear that
someone may kill them. Just to think you cannot go to a police officer because they may
snitch on you and have you beaten, or you finally go forward and try to seek help but are
threatened if you prosecute. We must wonder why many of these slaves remain with their
owners and avoid support for this same reason. Before we pass judgment on this subject
Lozada 4
we must not judge what we cannot see; we must educate ourselves and find ways to help
this cruel reality of human and sex trafficking.
Now the question remains what can a person do? How do we assist victims of
trafficking? The answer is easy, first, educate yourself on what trafficking is and the
types of trafficking there is. You want to raise awareness: Read a book and share with
your family and friends. Social media is the best way to raise awareness, share links and
have your friends share as well. Provide financial support, enter into a trafficking website
like Polarisproject.com and safehorizon.org. Community vigilance: you can get the
education your community and look for signs of a person being trafficked. There are
ways to spot human trafficking, victims in human trafficking live on or near where they
work most likely in large numbers of occupants in a small space. Victims usually do not
have much space or personal possessions and are kept under surveillance and escorted by
the employer. The victim may be some scarring or branding of ownership. Victims are
usually not fed well, so they are malnourished and show signs of sexual assault and
physical abuse.
If you do come across this type of scenario, make sure you know your state laws
and the laws of human trafficking. You can also become an advocate for these victims;
there are tons of agencies willing to take volunteers to help aid the end to Human
Trafficking. If you know of a person that is the victim of human trafficking provides the
phone number to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, which is 1-888-3737888, which is available 24/7. Awareness of human trafficking can also be incorporated
Lozada 5
into your job by providing manuals, training, and conferences. For students, you can
establish a school club and involve other students to the cause.
To end human trafficking includes removing sex tourism and sex tourists; that are
people who travel to other countries for commercial sex especially with girls from poor
communities. To recap the elements of sex trafficking is the act that is the recruitment,
transport, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons in which means is the threat or use of
coercion, abduction, fraud, deception, and vulnerability, or giving payments or benefits to
a person in control of the victim. Lastly is the purpose that is the prostitution of others,
sexual exploitation, forced labor or services, or slavery. I ask that you, please come and
be the voice for these victims of modern-day slavery, be their voice, and help fight for the
cause that brings such disgrace to this world.
