American Business in the Global Marketplace
The term global marketplace refers to the international production and exchange of
goods, services and money. The United States is the world’s leading exporter and importer, and
its companies spend more money establishing and expanding overseas operations than those of
any other nation. Business and commerce is one arena where the world is increasingly
“American.” This series examines nonmilitary, nonpolitical aspects of this pervasive U.S.
influence — from democratic ideals and entrepreneurial ingenuity to language, sports and
popular culture — and some of the consequences of this influence. (86)
American consumers are more than just a market. They are an entire model for some
companies. This enhances fiscal sustainability and as a result an economic growth is established.
The U.S government knew that, for economic growth to see an upward trend, they had to
stabilize the loanable funds available in the market in order to lower interest rates (Folsom 2005).
This boosted an incentive for investment and attracted local entrepreneurs. Job opportunities for
many Americans were created reducing the unemployment rate and this meant an improved
economic growth for the country. The demand for investment saw the stability of capital flow in
the market and this played an important role in setting America business at the global scale
(Dallmeyer 2006). (126)

To advance entrepreneurship promotion abroad, Global Entrepreneurship
Program (GEP) works with U.S. embassies and partners to promote new programs, such
as generating new angel investment networks, entrepreneurship delegations, mentoring
collaborations, global celebrations, and incorporating the women’s entrepreneurship
portfolio in order to promote the success of potential high growth, high impact womenowned enterprises (Smith-Hunter 2013). Government’s proper role is to provide an
environment that allows the individual to create and innovate, which strengthens our
economy. America has always been a beacon of hope for those willing to come here,
work hard and make something of themselves. As a result of this open market, it has seen
the spirit of entrepreneurship go beyond expectations thereby uplifting Americas’
economy to greater heights (Dorinda 2006). (121)
Investing abroad is another contributing factor setting Americas’ business competitive
globally. Even as the rest of the world finances American consumption, U.S. Companies invest
more than their counterparts from other nations in new operations abroad. The advancement of
technology and economic progress in many of the world’s developing nations has spurred
innovation, and investors are eager to invest with innovative companies around the world
(Weidenbaum 2008). When large companies see an opportunity to capitalize, they go ahead on
investing thereby creating international relations as well as exchange of foreign currency to the
country’s capital market. Money managers often balance portfolios by investing abroad. For
example, when a company operates globally as well as domestically, buying that company’s
stock exposes you to possible profits in multiple countries (Folsom 2006). Investing in a
company that operates in multiple countries may also be safer, since it protects investors from
the economic downturns of a single nation (Andrea 2013). (149)

In conclusion, America is setting trends globally, in terms of the way business is running
in the country by making sure there is a fiscal sustainability in order to compete with other
countries doing well. Americas business is the whole package. With investors indicating their
interest in international markets following the tremendous increase of exchange-traded funds
(ETFs) offering exposure to foreign companies, its position globally will be at peak. (69)
