Write a paper discussing the following items about learning environments in early childhood
(specifically PreK), in general. Use research from readings and other sources to support your ideas
(citations).

Write a paper explaining the following components:
1. Explanation of developmentally appropriate materials for PreK. Discuss materials for PreK,
using the following questions. Use research from readings and other sources to support your

1. Learning environment map.
Draw an informative map of one pre-k classroom; label all of the areas/items with typed words.
Be both neat and comprehensive. Do this on a typical 8 x 11 piece of blank copy paper, tape on
typed words or use labels. Be creative and clear – use colors and accurate shapes and spacing.
You will then have to scan it into the computer to upload it. Alternatively, you could use a
computer software program to design it.
2. Explanation of your learning environment.
a. State the age/grade.
b. Explain the learning environment. Specify if it follows a specific approach or theory.
c. Explain how yours is developmentally appropriate. Use specific examples.
d. Provide rationale for your environment. Support your ideas with research, citing the
text and readings. Use at least 1 reference.
Total: about 2 pages, 1 for the map and 1 for the explanation
Total for assignment: approximately 7-9 pages, along with a separate map and reference page)
Total number of references: at least 2 different sources (cited numerous times within your paper and
