111). What do you want to happen at the end of this course? Remember that satisfactorily passing this course means
admittance to the Coles College of Business, but you must first convince your career coach that you belong there.
Always begin a business plan by stating your purpose. Then, build a foundation of facts to support that purpose,
analyze those facts to make sure that your audience understands how they relate to your purpose, and finish by
making a recommendation (Roman and Raphaelson 111). Follow each of these steps to make sure that your message
is both heard and understood appropriately by your audience.
Use what you’ve learned about writing in the last few modules to write a business plan convincing your career coach
that you would be an asset to the Coles College of Business. Remember that this document will be assessed by your
career coach and your writing coach, so make sure that it is error-free and formatted professionally.
In a Word document of 750 to 850 words, discuss your potential major and career choices, including the role that the
Coles College of Business might play in your future. While you must address each of the following questions, your
plan should not be merely a list of answers. Rather, you should provide an organized, coherent discussion complete
with research-based evidence/examples. You will be evaluated not only on your content but also on your ability to
write a plan that is

My Major & Career Report
Section One: “I Came”
1. Why have you selected your current major?
My main areas of interest are Banking and Insurance, to fit with my International Business
Major. These two areas of interest are related in that the courses offered in these two areas are of
great benefit to my career in the Banking industry.
2. What is your career goal and how will the major that you listed translate into your career goal?
My career goal is to become a loans officer in the banking industry. As a loans officer, my
responsibility is to give business loans, to investigate the amount of mortgage to be given to
business entities or to organizations that are in need of loan, and above all to ensure that the
organization or the business entity coming for a loan has an insurance cover. My banking major
will give me a broader knowledge on the types of loans to be given out while taking insurance
major will equip me with different types of insurance covers.
3. Identify two of your natural strengths and describe how each will help you accomplish your
career goals.
My main strength is that I am a hardworking person thus I believe that with the little effort that I
will put in my classwork, I will get diverse knowledge on banking and insurance. Secondly, I am
willing to learn new things or new concepts both in and out of class. This is of great benefit to
me in that I will try to relate what I learn in class with what is there in the real world.

4. Identify two current skills that you could improve upon to be more successful in
accomplishing your career goals.
In terms of skills that I have to improve to be more successful in the future, I can say that I
should put more effort to get better conversational skills. Since I am a kind of taciturn person, I
do not really talk a lot and am not a good speaker. Without proficiency in conversational skills, I
will definitely have a difficulty to deal with clients in the bank. Secondly, I can say I am good at
speaking in my first language, Korean, but I usually feel awkward when it comes to speaking in
English. I am not even decided whether going back to my home country to get a job or staying in
United States to work. So English proficiency is a must if I make my mind to stay. Good
conversational skills and English proficiency are one that I have to do all my best to make a great
improvement in, so that I could be a professional speaker dealing with many clients and to be
more successful in accomplishing my career goal in United States.
5. Identify two people in your personal or professional network and describe how each could
assist you in accomplishing your career goals.
My elder brother has been my mentor in one way or the other. As I was growing up I told him
that I am interested in working in the banking industry and he told me that I had to work hard
and see my dream come true. Secondly, my dad and mom have been supportive to me both
morally and financially. They have been supporting my education from my pre-school time up to
date, thus their support has been an inspiration to me.
Section Two: “I Saw”
1. Discuss what you learned through your research on your proposed major and career by listing
at least two job titles or occupations that interest you.

i) Loans officer: Although the loans officer is paid in terms of commission, the annual average
salary of a loans officer is $56,490 as per BLS.
➢ In terms of employment forecast, I anticipate that in the next 10 years, I will be working
as a senior loans officer in the Bank of America or in any leading bank in the United
States.
➢ New York and Chicago are the two states with the highest projected growth of the loans
officer
➢ The five main employers of loans officer include: banks, commercial lenders, business
entities, mortgage firms, and insurance companies.
ii) Insurance representative/agent: According to the BLS reports, insurance agents earn an
average annual wage of $46,770.
➢ As an insurance agent, I anticipate that in the next eight years I will be offering my
services in an insurance company
➢ Los Angeles and Boston are the two states to work as an insurance agent in the United
States of America.
➢ Among the leading employers of insurance: Banks, insurance company, nongovernmental organization, health industry, and private firms.
2. Describe three personality traits that employers hiring for those job titles would need to see in
a resume.
i) Loans officer: Fearlessness is a vital trait that is needed because, he or she will be entrusted
with a lot of money thus he or she should be willing to move around with it. Secondly, one has to

be flexible and adaptable to the changing schedules, thus he or she has to think, decide, and act
as fast as possible. Lastly, a loans officer should be competitive in that he or she should work
hard to get more clients.
ii) Insurance representative/agent: Reliability is an essential personality which is considered by
employers of an insurance agent. Top agents are counted on their ability to convince a client to
seek for the services offered by the firm. Secondly, an agent should be candid in terms of
communication because he or she is expected to explain complicated concepts. Lastly, discipline
is highly valued thus an agent should demonstrate outmost discipline (Weert, Frans, 2011)
3. Describe three characteristics that are important to you in a career (e.g. salary, flexibility,
travel, etc.).
In my career, flexibility is essential because when I will be working in a bank or in an insurance
firm, I will come across changes thus I need to be flexible and I will rest assured of adapting
them. Secondly, time management is important in my career because the more the clients, the
more the commission I will earn. Lastly, I need to be a hardworking person because the more I
will work hard, then I will rest assured of getting the best recommendations and my services will
be highly valued.
Section Three: “I WILL Conquer”
1. Describe two specific courses offered at KSU that you can take to help you be successful in
your career of choice.
The main courses offered at KSU which are of great benefit to me include: Global Accounting to
provide me with skills and knowledge on the banking industry across the globe. Secondly is

insurance markets and operations, this course will provide me with solid understanding of the
nature and roles of insurance.
2. Identify the grade point average (GPA) needed to enter your targeted career field (if
applicable).
The minimum GPA required to enter my field of choice is a 2.8
3. Name and describe two student or professional organizations you could join to assist you in
reaching your career goals.
Westfield Agent Association (WAA) is one of the insurance organizations which I am interested
in joining because of the scholarship programs to students pursuing insurance careers. Secondly
is American Bankers Association (Sethi et.al, 2011).The advantage of joining this association is
that I will get all the financial and regulatory information.
4. Describe any extra training or education beyond a four-year degree needed for your targeted
career field.
Apart from the four-year degree, I have to do the exams that will enable me to qualify as
Certified Public Accountant.
5. Identify the types of career-related work experiences that could assist you in reaching your
career goals.
Apart from the four years education course, I have to go for a six months internship program in a
bank where I will get practical experience. In addition to this, I intend to attend regular
workshops that are organized by American Bankers Association.

The first internship job on the OWL link is a junior insurance agent. To be this will be the best
opportunity in that it will expose me to my area of specialization. Secondly is the position of a
teller which to me is an important position in that I will get to know more about banking. Lastly,
there is an internship position for a loans officer at KSU, to me this position is of great value in
that it will equip me with adequate skills and knowledge to handle all my responsibilities.
8. Define a specific timeline for acquiring career-related work experience that will assist you in
reaching your career goals.
My intention is to attend this year annual workshop organized by the American Bankers
Association to be held early next month. Secondly, I am planning to volunteer come this
December holiday at KSU where I will work with the accounts department. My aim is to get a
better understanding on financial matters.
