Project:
You will perform a financial analysis of two companies in the same industry which are publicly

both assessing the past financial performance of the companies and making forecasts of their
future financial performance.
Project Requirements:
1. Choose two public companies in the same industry, and compare their last five years’ net income by
calculating their means, average growth rates, and standard deviations. (15 points)
2. Choose two public companies in the same industry, and compare their last five years’ earnings per share by
calculating their means, average growth rates, and standard deviations. (15 points)
3. Choose two public companies in the same industry, and compare their last five years’ return on assets by
calculating their means, average growth rates, and standard deviations. (15 points)
4. Create an individual comparative time-series graph/plot of each ratio analysis from #1-#3 above. (15 points)
5. Explain, in plain English, the key reason from the company’s annual financial statements and any other cited
resources for any discontinuities in the financial performance of each individual company. For example, there
may have been an acquisition by the company that significantly increased net income from one year to the
next. (20 points)
6. Based upon items #1-#5, which company has stronger financial performance? Describe your rationale using a
short paragraph. (20 points)
7. Extra Credit – 20 points
• Using items #1-#5, calculated a predicted value for each company’s net income, EPS, and ROA for
the upcoming financial statement year. Show your work and compare this calculated to any
