Should campus security guards carry loaded guns?
Usually, while events are about the guns are becoming a hot question, because people
always know how guns are dangerous. People in the US have their right to carry guns, because
this way people can protect themselves in emergency. But on the other hand, people are hard to
make a choice for the police or security guards on campus have guns or not. By author
Marciniak, he describes a case happened at Virginia Tech “A chilly morning in April 2007 took
a terrible turn at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia as a startling statement came across
campus emails: a shooting had occurred in a dormitory shortly before 8:00am. Within hours, the
messages unfolded a dreadful series of events, resulting with 32 people dead and many injured”
(Marciniak, 2015, p7). Life is important and students on campus means they are the future of
a country, the safety of the student on campus should be put on the first place. Some people
think the safest way is to let the security guard on campus carry loaded guns. Some people think
the guns are dangerous even that the security guard should not have guns, some states even
banned guns on campus. However, in my opinion, the security guards on campus should carry
loaded guns for safety of the students.
The security guards’ jobs are makes students safety. Their guns are one point that makes
students more safety. Even there hasn’t have any terrorist activities happened, people may
sometimes have precaution, because if that happened, the policy men can’t be there immediately
or on time. But when allowing security guards on campus carrying guns, then the security guards

can use those guns to control the criminals and protect the students on campus and makes the
situation safely. “Indeed, all experience has shown that the places with the strictest disarmament
policies are the most vulnerable to rampage killings.” (n.d,2016) The criminals always choose
the utter inability place because those places are easy to start the crime, such as the school is one
of the utter inability place because there are usually a gun-free-zones, students can’t do much
with those criminals. So, the security guards are our last protection: How could the gun-free
security guards be able to fight with the guns carry criminals? Guns can help a lot for security
guards, and at the same time, it can make student be at ease.
While security guards are carry guns, and this information been well known to people,
then any criminal who may plan to have terrorist activities on campus will need to think about
the consequences. The criminals are still human, they afraid of gun either. “The simple fact of
the matter is that rampage killings, for which college campuses are a prime target, almost always
occur in gun-free-zones” (n.d,2016). Also, the guns can makes students more safety when they
go to class or library, that can let students study hard and get good grades without any stress.
In Addition, people might worry that the security guards can be harm students on campus
by accident. Some states even have Introduced the “Campus Concealed Carry Policies” to try to
limit the terrorist activities on campus. But the truth is, this policy did not help. According to the
study of “College campus rampage shooters and the effectiveness of concealed carry policies”, it
explained the gun control and campus concealed carry policies on campus doesn’t work because
the criminal can always buy guns legally or get it from acquaintances, those policies will only
work on the security guard and students, who usually are the victims of the shooting
(Marciniak,2015,p6). In addition, for accidental use of firearms on security guards. I believe
security guards can systematic training the skill of using guns, and the system of the campus

security guards can be train as same as moral police. Furthermore, the guards on campus can also
pick from the policy who already trained before. Some people might say that they are scare to
see the guns even that the security guards have it, but have you ever think about if you see the
guns from criminals, not the security guards? That is not just scare, that will be really dangerous
and too late for save students.
While security guards carry loaded guns on campus, students will feel safe and have
more energy to study rather than worry about what they should do while a criminal gets into the
school. Today, obtaining a gun license and possessing a firearm is getting easier and easier. If
criminals had such easy access to firearms, school security guards should also be equipped with
guns to contend with criminals. I remember there was a campus shooting happened in a primary
school, it costed casualties, but if the security guard carry a weapon that can subdue the criminal
faster and easier, then tragedy may not happen. Without the threat from security guards that carry
loaded guns, criminals usually have more chances to wantonly cause casualties and chaos.
