I don’t grade students work with the idea that I have to look for cheating all the time. Let me explain
what caught my eye and made me suspicious this afternoon. The files you emailed me last week (the
ones that someone else did for you) had very strange file names. I have never seen files named this
way. When you were in class this afternoon, you told me you had submitted your Semester Project
early. I quickly looked at Moodle to be sure it was there. The back of my mind noticed it had the
same strange file naming. Here is a screenshot of the files you submitted last week that someone
else had done for you–along with a screenshot of the PowerPoint file you submitted on Moodle.
Files are typically named with the student’s name and/or the assignment name. These names did not

You mentioned in class that you had done some proofreading on your project, and you were going
to submit it again. When I got home, I saw that you had submitted a new file. It was named in a
.manner that made sense
This last file was very well done. The entire PowerPoint design template was changed and all the
writing was perfect. You had not had time to work with a writing tutor between the time you

When you create a Microsoft Office file and save it, the file properties show the name of the
“author” of the document. Here is an example of the properties of the file I created for the
Guidelines for the Semester Project, along with the properties of the file one of your classmates
created for his Semester Project and submitted on Moodle a couple days ago. Please note the
.authors of the two files match the names of the people who created the files
Now let’s look at the properties of the file you submitted on Moodle after class today. This file was
created by the last person who worked on the file. The file you sent to me last week and asked me to
.give you feedback was created by an author named MRS ROP
You did not create this file. Someone else did the work for you. It appears as if several people
worked on the project for you. As I said in my first paragraph. I don’t know what to say to you. So I
