Unit 3 Play/Scene
What do I write about?
This portfolio requires you to write your own dramatic scene with dialogue, stage directions, lighting instructions, etc. It should be
formatted like a script. Your scene can be about anything you choose. The main thing you will want to focus on is being sure that
your scene is built around a theme (moral, lesson, feeing, idea, etc.) that you want to get across to your audience. This will allow
you to use the dialogue, stage directions, setting, etc. to express and demonstrate that theme. Some example scene ideas:
A discussion between friends about something that’s important to you (like volunteering or avoiding peer pressure.)
A family celebration that communicates the importance of supporting each other.
A job interview that shows how important it is to always be yourself.
A funny skit that has a humorous theme.
A scary skit that communicates the importance of being careful.
A skit about young children to capture the innocence of being young.
An argumentative dialogue between people to discuss the impact that choices have on our lives.
A holiday gathering to display the character that contribute to family dynamics.
A birthday celebration to highlight the importance of finding things to celebrate in life.
An action scene that show how important it is to consider how history effects the future.
A reenactment of historical event that shows how actions affect the lives of others.
A dream sequence to show the power of one’s thoughts.
A replay of certain traditional activity or event to show the importance of believing in something.
A scene from your childhood to show how much people are affected by the adults in their life.
A customer/representative interaction to show the impact one can have by being nice and/or rude.
A teacher/student interaction to teach people about considering the perspective of others.
A first day of school situation that exhibits the importance of treating others as you want to be treated.
A party filled with characters to develop individual personalities in relationship to crowds of people.
A monologue of what is going on inside someone’s head to introduce the idea of much what we say and do affects others.
A scene about someone finding something that doesn’t belong to them to explore the ideas of doing the right thing, even when
you may not get caught.
A dangerous scene that shows the importance of not being a victim by protecting yourself.
How should I organize it?
Take a look at plays that you’ve read and model your organization after them. Make sure you include dialogue and stage directions. Imagine you are watching your own play; what would this scene look like, including scenery, facial expressions, lighting
changes, and movements.
