The first car accident
Everybody will have some experiences that are memorable to them. It might be time spent
with family and friends, or tragic events full of bad luck. However, my unforgettable experience
is rather terrible and scary compared to others. It was a serious car accident. Imagine that if
you are facing a moment when you not sure about you will be dead in the next second. I was
sitting beside my friend Jason, who was driving that night when the accident occurred. The
whole process could be divided up to three parts, right before the accident, how it actually
happened, and the after math. Although this experienced is awful to go through, I really learned
a lesson from it. One must not take thir personal emotions and get affected while doing things
like driving. I believe my friend also understood this lesson through the accident, he was
responsible for it after all.
In the afternoon of this horrible day, we were playing an exciting basketball competition
between Chinese International students. There were almost a hundred people participating in
this game. Around fourteen teams were ready for the competition. It was a points race match
which means each team needs to play at least ten to eleven times of quarter game. There was
no rest in between two games, leaving us with little time to eat or supply energy. The match
went on until 10 in the evening. Unfortunately, after half a day of tough matches, out team did
not get a food score to enter the ranking. My team mates were a but disappointed but all more
tired and hungry. But all of us were also asked to stay back to clean up the basketball courts. I
decided to leave with another player on our team, Chris, who is also one of my roommates.
However, there were no buses anymore and we desperately wanted to have some food first. So
we contacted our other roommate, Jason, to drive his car and pick us up. By the time he arrived
at the gym, it was already nearly eleven p.m. Jason had another girl, Elise, in his car who also
have not had dinner. We headed to wards Denny’s as Jason told us about his new girlfriend. He
has been asking this girl out since the beginning of high school, and she finally accepted him
as her boyfriend “officially” on that day. We can tell Jason could not help to share his joy and
happiness even while driving. “You know what, today is a day worth celebrating! Let us have
some fun and race on the road!” he said. There was only a few cars on the way because it was
nearly midnight. I did not stop Jason from speeding up since we were all very hungry and
wanted to get to Denny’s as soon as possible. But things soon went out of control. The three of
us tightened our seat belt as the car wen went faster and faster. Elsie kept on saying “ Oh my
god” loudly. In fact, everyone was really anxious and nervous. I felt like there is a wall pressing
on to my teeth, stopping any noise from coming out of my mouth. We had no idea what is going
to happen.
As we were driving down on the Parkway East, the speed of our car reached on hundred
and twenty miles per hour. Looking out of the window, the surrounding, buildings and cars,
passed through beside us, as fast as a rocket launching. My eyes can not catch up anything that
just passed by. It was impossible to classify anything. I was really confused by the shape of the
tress and building. Because they were totally contort into other form of things. The tress, I saw,
seemed like a spoon which is bent by supernatural power. The feeling of my body was similar
to sitting a roller coaster. I could physically feel the acceleration of the car. Elsie was freaking
out and screaming. She tried to stop Jason in reckless driving, but Jason was not able to react
to what Elsie said. Everything was happening so suddenly. At the crossroad of Denny’s, Jason
made a sharp turn to the right, since he wanted to have a drift. If I did not wearing a seat belt,
the centrifugal force will definitely easily throw us out of the car. In this moment, I could see
the death coming on my side. Many of the memories just come up in my mind, including the
faces of my family and my friends. At the same time, the car could not get into the right way,
because the high speed of the car did not let it perform a ninety degree turning properly. We
grabbed the seat belt, crossed ourselves, as the car got over the road, and went straight toward
a tree. “BANG!” When I open my eyes, the scene in front of me was the head of the car heavily
hitting in to the tree and forced to stop. Air bags burst out and punched on my chest. It was
difficult to breath for me. Windows were broken, the smokes from the engine crate recovered
inside the car. I felt like a short sighted person, everything were fuzzy. I could not even find
the lock on the door, so I released my seat belt first, then kicked the door twice, and finally got
out of the car. The tree which we hit was still fine. But the car was out of all recognition. The
head of car shrunk inside as a clenching spunge. I was one hundred percent sure this car will
go to the scrap factory. I quickly checked whether my body is hurt anywhere, so did Elise and
Chris who also managed to get out of the back seats of the car. I only felt chest congestion and
a bit pain, but Elise had bruises and lumps all over her knees and shoulders because she hit the
front seats heavily. Though his face hit the front seat too, Chris seemed alright at the moment.
Jason still sat in the car for a while before he got out, he was not hurt but more shocked than
anyone. In such a mess, people from Denny’s and the parking lot started to gather around us.
Someone in the crowd called the police for us. We did not think an ambulance was necessary.
It only tool 5 minutes for the police to arrive. 2 policeman got out of the car and walked
straight towards us. They first checked each of our IDs and then asked us to explain what
happened one by one. We know this is the routine of police for an accident, but when they took
out a recording pen, we were still a bit nervous. After questioning everyone, the police issued
three tickets to Jason, they are for reckless driving, speeding and safety awareness。 One of
the police also called a towing company to trailer the car away. We had to wait for it to come,
so by the time we got on a cab, it was already passed 1.pm in the late night. Through we were
pretty hungry, none of us had the mood to eat anymore. I got straight into bed as soon as I
arrived home, but I barely slept well that night, I remember starting to dream about the car
crash and my chest continues to feel pressure as someone lay my body. On the next day, Chris
and I decided to go to the hospital and doctor a full medical inspection. We ere both worried if
something went wrong within our body. Eventually, it turns out I did not have any major
problems, the doctor explained to me that my chest feels uncomfortable because of the intense
strike of the airbag. This symptom is normal and it will recover in several days. On the other
hand, Chris was not as lucky as me. he had a server injury that is unable to discover easily. His
face bones got comminuted fractured in several places. The doctors told him no surgery can be
arrived out because it is on the face, he can only wait for the bones to heal themselves. during
the process, which is about one year. He is restricted from getting on any plane, since the
pressure on a flight might damage the structures of the bones in his ace. Chris was really scared
by this result. According to myself, even there had not any problems or damage of my organs,
I assumed that I might got a psychological trauma. The few days after the accident, each time
when I was a passenger on the anybody’s car, I always had a feeling about some terrible
imaginations will happened in next second. It really made me scared of sitting on a car. And it
came with me in few months.
The accident has passed a long time till now, and my psychological trauma slowly
recovered with time. Nevertheless, I will always remember that drive with emotions at any
time. Although, we seemed to have many reasons to drive at such a speed. It was absolutely
stupid not noticing the danger of speeding. We were all very lucky to survive out of the crash.
The fact that we were not injured heavily and no one had open wounds is already a miracle.
Jason received a warning and had to pay for the damage he cause and the tickets he got. This
was an important lesson for him as well. I hope this will become a alert to every driver.
