Topic: Cognitive development
My topic for the research paper will be cognitive development. Why I chose the topic, I feel this one of
the most important aspect in human development. As a father, I feel I am going to learn more about the
various stages of cognitive development. This will help understand how to raise my kids so that they are
ready for the real world. I will be exploring the impact society and family has on the development of a
child. I know cognitive development is a very broad topic to choose from. However, I think to better
understand what I intended to learn I decided to study this topic and come up with my conclusion.
According (S. McLeod 2009)” Piaget’s theory of cognitive development explains how a child
constructs a mental model of the world. He disagreed with the idea that intelligence was a fixed trait, and
regarded cognitive development as a process which occurs due to biological maturation and interaction
with the environment.”
The definition of piaget encourage to write about this topic. I also believe that human activities
are the product of their biological maturation and their interaction with society. As I start this topic many
question comes to mind about the impact of change in environment will have on the definition of piaget.
Cognitive development is a very important topic to me as a father of little kids. Starting this topic,
my hope is to discover many ideas from different view point when it comes to cognitive development.
