SUBJECT: Signature assignment
I have been dealt with various kinds of theoretical as well as practical projects and
assignments of Operations Management. Few of the concepts I have used in my current job,
where I have to maintain quality standards for the products manufactured by the company. The
course has provided me and my team members the valuable insights about the operations
management like flowchart improvement process, statistical process control methods, lean
techniques, six sigma, etc.
The first project I have worked on this course was related to flowchart improvement
process. The complex process I selected was driving to my office. Starting from my home till
reaching the office, each and every aspect related to driving was considered like getting fuel tank
filled, searching for a parking lot. The time taken for me to reach the office for all five days was
observed and recorded. Later on, improvements were done in the flowchart and the tasks which
are not included in daily routine were excluded. This has helped in identifying all the tasks which
might be included in the process. But after making certain improvements the total time required
for completing the project was reduced. This is exactly what the subject tries to help in, like
reducing time and cost. Now I am aware of the basic requirements of the flowchart diagram.

The second project was based on statistical process control methods. This includes
statistical analysis of the data observed in previous project. It was based on applying process
capability, process capability index, and control charts, representing both practical and graphical
data. The purpose was to manage the quality and control the process. This has helped me to
compare the actual data with the ideal data. The data can be represented with the help of
histograms, scatter diagrams, cause and effect diagrams, etc. I came to know about the practical
applicability of the data which helps for further analysis. The knowledge of the formulas like
mean, standard deviation, and process capability. Ways to implement these formulas using
software like Excel. (Jacobs & Chase, 2014)
The third project was based on lean techniques, which I applied on Marriott hotel. The
purpose of the lean techniques was to create less wastage, less capital, space, and time
requirement. The analysis proved that using lean supply chain (applicable for service
organizations only) the cost had reduced, controls and client satisfaction were improved. The
project took several months to complete. Around 130 types of issues were sorted with the help of
5S technique. The 5S technique is based on stabilize, sort, sustain, shine, and standardize. At the
end only 30 issues were left unsolved. I came to know about the possible number of issues being
faced by the organization, how the MBS (Marriott Business Services) teams were formed to deal
with the issues. The estimated impact on the business is positive, as it sorted out almost 100
types of issues. (Vlachos & Bogdanovic, 2013)
The fourth project was based on the applicability of operations consulting for Marriott
Hotel. It helped me to identify the predetermined process for operations consulting. Operations
consulting are the advisory services which helps the organization various techniques. The
problem identified by the thorough research done for the Marriott Hotel was tough competition

and decreasing revenue. It was identified that the problem can be solved with the help of
customer feedback, employee motivation and hiring experts. Generally, the expert advice proved
to be very helpful for service and manufacturing organizations in long-run. Same is the case with
Marriott, they had benefitted from the expert advice. This was one of the most important projects
in which the analysis needs to be done for the business without any assistance of statistical
figures. This has helped me in my understanding and improved the business output.
The last project was based on forecasting techniques for IBM. My analysis of forecasting
showed that the most effective method is the simple moving average method. I implemented
three methods of forecasting simple moving average method, exponential moving average
method, and naïve method on Excel software. The analysis was done on past 5-year revenue.
I believe that my analytical skills and knowledge of Excel software will be an asset for
your organization. I will be glad if you give me chance to work with your organization as either
an operations consultant or permanent employee.
