{Climate Change}
Introduction
Climate change is explained as the significant alteration of the circulation of weather
patterns for a long period of time. It could also be elaborated as the alteration of weather
conditions in the long term. This situation is said to be caused by elements like volcanic
eruptions, biotic processes, plate tectonics, and solar radiation changes. There are also actions of
the human being which are blamed for facilitating climate change. Therefore, in this report, we
shall evaluate the perception of the inhabitants of America on climate change. This is facilitated
by the question: What is the opinion of the American people on climate change? This is chosen
over other questions like: What is the role of the customers on pollution? The other question is:
What are the reasons that make people resist the concept of climate change?
The Perceptions of Climate Change among Americans
The perceptions of climate change among the citizens of America tend to vary. This is
due to the significant diversity present in the country since most people come from different
religions, educational backgrounds, and cultures. Therefore, there is a section of about half of the
people in America who claim that climate change is facilitated by human action, another section
of a similar proportion claim that natural elements should be blamed for climate change.
Additionally, there is a section which does not believe in climate change and claims that there
exist no indications that the temperatures of the earth are increasing (Lee, Markowitz, Howe, Ko,
& Leiserowitz, 2015).
These differences tend to extend making the Americans have differing views on the
consequences of climate change as well as methods of its reduction. Therefore, forty percent of
Americans believe that climate change has damaging effects on the patterns of weather, wildlife,
as well as shorelines. They also have the belief that the personal and policy efforts taken with the
intention of reducing climate change have a significant effect. There is another section of the
inhabitants of America who have a perception that advanced technological undertakings would
assist in the process of solving issues created by climate change. Additionally, the is a section of
people who account for 61% of Americans who have the belief that people would consider
implementing significant alterations in the lifestyles in the next fifty years.
Proposal
Since the main issue of the study is to understand the perception of climate change
among Americans, I intend to have a direct conversation with a significant number of them. First
of all, I would post a question on the online platform asking what people understand by climate
change. The answers I will get would be from people from all over the globe, but the majority
will be from America. Therefore, I would prepare a questionnaire which I would use in my
evaluation of the concept among individuals. Oral interviews at a personal level would also be
effective since the public would be answering directly to my questions. These questions would
be focusing on the causes, effects, and approaches to reduce climate change.
Visiting the public parks, schools, hospitals, companies, as well as public functions
would be effective in acquiring significant numbers of participants from different backgrounds
(Melillo, Richmond, & Yohe, 2014). This would facilitate the attainment of diverse answers
facilitated by the difference in perceptions. I would also observe the behavior of people to
establish their efforts to respond to climate change. This would ensure that the assertions that
they claim during their individual interviews or questionnaires are in line with their behaviors.
The study would be more effective if I compared the perceptions of the ordinary Americans with
those of the scientists as well as religious leaders. This is because these groups of individuals are
usually the ones influencing the perceptions of the Americans on climate change.
Conclusion
Therefore, climate change is an issue of concern among various countries in the world. It
is also an issue in America, and people have different perceptions on the concept. This is
basically due to their backgrounds influenced by their religion, culture, or education level. The
study on the perception of Americans towards climate change would be revealed if actually this
public was questioned directly. This would be facilitated by the use of questionnaires or personal
interviews. Hence, for the rest of the semester, I will be asking the American public questions on
their knowledge of climate change.
