The intent of this assignment is to support intentional practices that support family involvement
in early care and learning. Students are expected to think through different ways families can
partner with a child care program to gain knowledge of their child’s development and to enhance
the quality of services within the program. Students will outline, based on best practices and the
Strengthening Families Protective Factors, ways programs can inform families, include families,
and support families.
Instructions
Students will:
1. Review the Chapter 7 lecture, complete the readings posted on the syllabus, read the
Strengthening Families Framework handouts prior to starting this assignment.
2. Find two empirical articles regarding this topic and at least one professional resource.
3. Complete the enclosed family involvement plan, by developing a personal philosophy of the
value of family engagement and developing family involvement and engagement activities
strategies for early care and learning programs.
Technical Details:
• This assignment is worth 60 points.

The personal philosophy should be one to two paragraphs and clearly state the student’s
views of the value of family engagement and involvement.

Family engagement is the process in which early care and learning facilities engage families in
the program through regular communication and resources. Develop the required amount of
