Expert answer:Phase 2 confidence intervals

Solved by verified expert:Discuss the importance of constructing confidence intervals for the population mean. What is the best point estimate for the population mean? Explain. Why do we need confidence intervals?Find the best point estimate of the population mean.Construct two confidence intervals for the population mean: a 95% confidence interval and a 99% confidence interval. Assume that your data is normally distributed and the population standard deviation is unknown. Please show your work for the construction of these confidence intervals and be sure to format your equations to fit the appropriate form (may need editing here). Write a paragraph that correctly interprets the confidence intervals in context of your selected topic. Compare and contrast your findings for the 95% and 99% confidence intervals. Did you notice any changes in your interval estimate? Explain. What conclusion(s) can be drawn about your interval estimates when the confidence level is increased? Explain.

The scenario I chose is trying to obtain information on patients who have an infectious
disease. This scenario includes the name and age of each patient that had been seen with this type
of infection. As far as reviewing goes it has been noticed that age is playing a role on those who
have been coming in to get checked for this infectious disease. This could help pinpoint as well
what type of treatment we will need to treat the disease. As of now we only have names and ages
where there will need to be a little more data collected to pinpoint exactly how to treat it and
what is causing this to occur. The quantitative that is being used at this point is the number of
patients that have come in so far to be seen with the disease and also the age range of each of
them. Then the qualitative is going based on the client’s name and number. This will help keep
track of those who they need to treat when they figure out a solution. Continuous data that is
being used would be the client’s age. This is something that can be used throughout time. At the
same time, age can also be measured as discrete. The number of patients that are being scened
for the time being for the infectious disease would be considered discrete.
The level of measurement consists of four parts when measuring variables. The first part
is nominal. Nominal is going to include of gender in this scenario. They will split it between
female and male patients as for each can be different at the end of the day. Then the second area
is ordinal which is going to be the similarities or relationships each of these clients hold. This
could mean how many of them have the same health issues for instances. The third area would
be the interval which is something that conventional measures distance, and in this case, it could
be the differences in age. They will go based off how far or close in age each patient who has the
disease is to each other. Last but not least would be the ratio. The ratio could also be based on the

age difference between each client and even go based on each test that was taken as for each
person is going to have a different level. (Banhjon, D. (2015, June 13).
The Measures of Center and the Measures of Variation are essential because it helps be
able to organize all the information that is being gathered to pinpoint what the issue is. If we did
not collect data using either of these, it would be very hard in many areas of life, in general, to be
able ever to figure out a solution to an issue. There are three measures of center, and those three
are mean, median, and mode. The mean is the most common measure of center. The mean
always exists, the mean does not have to be one of the data values, the mean uses all the data
values, and the mean is affected by extreme values. The median is the value in the center of the
data. Half of the values are less than the median and half of the values are more than the median.
It is probably the best measure of center to use in a skewed distribution. The median always
exists, the median does not have to be one of the data values. The median does not use all of the
data values, only the one in the middle. The median is resistant to change; it is not affected by
extreme values. The mode is the most frequent value. If no value appears more than any other,
then there is no mode. The mode may or may not exist. If it does exist, there may be one or
several modes. The mode has to be one of the data values. The mode does not use all the data
values. The is probably not affected by extreme values since it’s unlikely the absolute values are
not the most common. (Helvy, J. (2001, February 20)
Six areas are part of the measure of variation. These six areas are the range, quartiles,
interquartile range, variance, the sum of squares and empirical rule. The first area is the range,
and that is one of the most fundamental measures of variation. It is the difference between the
smallest data item in the set and the largest. Then there are quartiles which divide your data into

quarters: the lowest 25%, the next lowest 25%, the second highest 25% and the highest 25%.
After that is the interquartile range which is one of the most popular measures of variation used
in statistics. It is a measure of how data is spread around the mean. Then there is variance which
tells you how far a data set is spread out, but it is an abstract number that is only used for
calculating the Standard Deviation. After variance is the sum of square. Sum of a square is a
relatively advanced technique that measures how data varies around a central number, like the
mean. It’s used extensively in regression analysis to calculate how well data points correspond to
a line of best fit. Last would be the empirical rule which is how much of data lies a certain
distance from the mean. (Brack, C. (2017, March 08) For the mean of the patient’s age it would
be the average age of 61.82. Then the median is set at 61.5. Where the range is then at 41 and the
mode is at 69 had has appeared seven times from the data that was listed. The midrange is stated
to be 55.5. The variance of the data that was collected rounded would be 78.32. Last but not least
of all the data is the standard deviation, and that is stated to be 8.92. Overall all the data that has
been collected was calculated and rounded to the nearest number as for the numbers can be quiet
long. With each piece of information that was gathered and calculated it will help get closet into
solving what is going to treat the disease and what could be causing it more in one age than it
does in another age and what those individuals have in common.
