Requirements of submission: Each section of the final project must follow these
formatting guidelines: 6–8 pages, double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman
font, one-inch margins, 5 discipline-appropriate citations, including in-text
citations. Title page, body of paper, reference page and appendix.
The Strategic Analysis
The development of a strategic analysis guides all decisions made regarding your
compensation systems throughout the project. The strategic analysis reveals firmspecific challenges, objectives, and initiatives that allow you to align the goals of a
compensation system effectively with those of the company strategy.
The strategic analysis allows you to better understand the external market
challenges e-sonic faces in addition to its internal capabilities. As a consultant, a
thorough understanding of e-sonic’s business environment allows you to better
align your competitive system design with e-sonic’s goals, challenges, and
objectives. Follow the outline below when completing this portion of the project.
Strategic Analysis Outline:
1. Executive Summary (Concisely conveys the project objectives and main
findings. The executive summary is completed last, but included first in the
strategic analysis.)
2. Strategic Analysis
a) Identification of e-sonic’s industry based on the North American
Industry Classification System (NAICS)
b) Analysis of e-sonic’s external market environment
i. Industry Profile
ii. Competition
iii. Foreign Demand
iv. Long-Term Industry Prospects
v. Labor-Market Assessment
c) Analysis of Internal Capabilities
i. Functional Capabilities
ii. Human Resource Capabilities
The Strategic Analysis section is fully described in the MyManagementLab
Building Strategic Compensation Systems casebook for faculty and students,
linked in the MyLab course menu. Follow the explanations and outline to complete
this milestone. The Strategic Analysis section is due at the end of Module Three.
Executive Summary
Strategic Analysis
Welcome to the project! I have created this guide after several terms of teaching OL 325.
Therefore, I have made this guide because it puts all the info in one place and if you follow this
guide specifically (and follow all the support and APA rules), you will score well on the project.
You need to use all of the headings I have provided and follow the directions for each section.
One of the most important things to remember about this project is that you are not
researching eSonic, rather you are researching the online music industry. The TXT file will
provide you with enough detail on eSonic for you to make recommendation on the proper
compensation strategy. That is the point of this milestone is that you are acting as a consultant
(either internal or external) for eSonic and will make recommendations on a compensation
strategy for the organization based on the goals listed in the TXT files.
This section should include executive summary and strategic analysis. In other words,
you will tell me here why you arrived at the plan you chose and how this plan will drive the
business strategically. The executive summary will be completed in the final milestone that you
turn in. It should be between 1-2 pages. In the first milestone you will conduct the strategic
analysis which includes external environment and internal capabilities and the sub-headings
below each. For the first milestone you will leave this section blank. You will keep the heading
and complete the following headings in red below for your first milestone.
Please note that I do not provide specific APA feedback in grading. Therefore, I expect
that you are familiar with APA. If you are not for some reason, please use the following websites
as tools…

I do count off for grammar, APA, spelling, formatting, in-text citations and 5
references. I have provided you with a link at the end of this paragraph that review not only
APA formatting, but also the APA writing style. Take special note of rules on paragraph length,
personification, first person, the use of pronouns, professional and concise writing style.

External Environment
In this section you should include a short paragraph or two. You should talk about what
steps you take when examining the external environment. What do you look at? What are best
practices? Also, please remember that every section (heading) needs to have statements of fact
that are derived from research. You should support your work with evidence and include an intext citation for each section of your paper. Title page, body of paper, reference page and
appendix.
Industry profile.
In this section you should list the NAICS code. This is not a long section, but you should
visit the website listed at the end of this paragraph. I would recommend using the same code as
companies like iTunes. You can also talk about the history of NAICS and why it is important.
Remember that this sections, does not have to be long, but as with every section it needs to be
supported with evidence. http://siccode.com/en/codes/naics/512230/music-publishers
Competition.
In this section you will talk about common competitors of eSonic. Likely you will use
companies like Amazon Music. iTunes, etc.
Foreign demand.
In this section you will talk about the demand for web-based music outside of the United
States. Below are a few websites to get you started.

Long-Term Industry Prospects.
Similar to the above section, in this section you will provide factual information about the
long-term industry prospects of online music companies. Remember that eSonic is a made up
company. Therefore, you will need to conduct research on the industry rather than eSonic
specifically. Here are a few sites to get you started on this section…

https://www.fastcompany.com/3048653/listen-up
Labor-market assessment.
In this section you will first tell me what a labor market assessment is. What are the steps,
when is it completed, etc. Here is a site that can get you started:
https://www.mercycorps.org/research-resources/labor-and-market-assessment-guidance-and-tipsheets
https://www.mercycorps.org/research-resources/labor-and-market-assessment-guidanceand-tip-sheets
In this section you will also actually complete a labor-market assessment for eSonic. It
does not have to be in-depth, but I need to be able to see that you actually took some of the basic
steps in completing a labor-market assessment.
Internal Capabilities
In this section you will define what internal capabilities are. What are best practices?
How do you determine what a company’s capabilities are? https://hbr.org/2004/06/capitalizingon-capabilities
Functional capabilities.
In this section you specifically identify what eSonic’s functional capabilities are. You are
provided enough fictitious info on eSonic to provide your analysis for this section. Here are will
be doing more analyzation based on what you have learned rather than research for this section.
The same is true for the next section: Human resources capabilities.
Human resources capabilities.
