I am currently working at UW Health on F4/4 Trauma and Surgical IMC. My unit has 26 beds, 14 general care and 12 IMC. We are a Level 1 trauma center that also plays host to any and all IMC patients whether it be a new kidney transplant or a motorcycle crash victim. After graduation, I will begin working on my unit as a nurse resident.For the past 3 years, I have been living in Darlington, WI. We are a small rural town in southwest Wisconsin, not far from the Illinois border. We have 2,500 residents in town with a small county hospital, one primary care clinic and one small grocery store. The main employment industries in our town are agriculture and production. Our town has large older adult and Hispanic populations with limited access to more complex medical care needs. Many patients in our town are required to travel 30+ minutes for specialist care, dialysis and diagnostic procedures without the convenience of public transportation. That being said, we are a close-knit community that works to help and provide for our members.In Darlington, we use annual flu vaccinations as a primary prevention tool to protect the people in our community. For secondary prevention, we provide access to screenings including colonoscopies and mammograms for high risk populations.
