In our situation we have a Sales Manager who is the head of the
department. His name is John and he has twelve people reporting to
him. These twelve employees are his sales team, they go out on a
daily bases to meet with potential customers to try and sell their
tools. Well John uses an aggressive management style on his team
and many members of the team believe he is too aggressive. John is
constantly pushing his team to the limit to put in 100% effort into the
company, and that focusing on the company 24/7 can only bring
more sales in the future. John’s team is obviously motivated by his
leadership style because the results are obvious. John’s team is the
leading sales team in the state of Michigan. The problem is that
John’s team is starting to become worn down by John, and getting
sick of his leadership choices. John is constantly pushing his team to
do better, even when the team is investing 100% of their time and
efforts into selling more tools. The sales team is wondering when or
if John will ever be satisfied with their work, they are always putting
in their best and John is asking for more and expecting better results
week after week. No matter what the team does John is criticizing
their efforts towards the job, telling everyone they should never be
satisfied with their results. The problem is that John is eventually
going to push his entire sales team to pursue other job opportunities
by pushing them away and making them think they can perform
better work, even when the employees themselves know they cannot
do anything more to increase sales. This aggressive style does bring
out the best of John’s employees, however John doesn’t know when
enough is enough, and its going to bring his sales to a screeching
halt when his entire team quits.
