Suburbs are primarily residential areas or in other cases mixed function areas that existed
away from the city life. Cities on the other hand are highly overpopulated areas metropolitan
regions. Different people move to either of the two for different reasons depending on the
preferences of the people. Suburbs primarily came to existence as people moved away from
cities for varied reasons. The quality of life in these two regions is quite different although in
some cases they might not be so much apart geographically.

The cities are more preferable by single people who love the city’s culture as well as its
nightlife. The city provides a good quality of life for the single having a wide range of
theaters, museums, and concert halls among others that are accompanied by bars, clubs,
as well as restaurants that make nightlife exquisite. The restaurants are always open till
the wee hours of the night in the cities while the suburbs lack all these luxuries and the
only place one can obtain food in the suburbs is in the one way drive hotels (Garreau,
2011).

The city contains excellent mass transit systems that run all edges of the city and are
available at all times that favors many individuals. Most of these mass transit systems are
always available in the wee hours of the night something that is inapplicable and
unavailable in the suburbs (Lever, 2000).

Another aspect of the city that boost the quality of life although is diminishing is the
enormous shopping malls that dominate the city drawing people from the suburbs and
other localities for their shopping activities.

However, despite all this factors that make the quality of life in the cities to be
extraordinary, there are certain features that come as an advantage to the suburbs while
diminishing the quality of life in the cities (Cramer et al., 2004).

Cities are noisy characterized by heavily moving cars that make night time sleep
unbearable while the suburbs are characterized by quiet and peaceful nights with least
interferences. The police sirens as well as fire brigade horns are amplified by the canyons
at night diminishing the quality of life in the cities.

The city lack privacy and is characterized by closely located houses whereby the
neighbors can easily hear the next door’s conversations without straining. This feature
contrasts life in suburbs that keeps the neighbors away from your yard and life as well.
This feature makes the suburb life more preferable (Rogerson, 1999).

Above all, the cities are dirty with dust particles everywhere in the house as well as the
windows risking the health of the house inhabitants. This isn’t the case in the suburbs
whereby locking the door keeps all the unwanted materials outside the house.
As observed, the quality of life varies significantly from the city and suburbs depending on the
factors being examined. However, upon weighing the positives and negatives associated with
cities and suburbs, the cities are more preferential and their positivity overcomes negativity
(Garreau, 2011).

the popular culture gave the people hope and a sense of security that guided them through the
trying times (Burg, 2009).

The popular culture introduced the new phrase ‘the American way of life’ that dominated the

communicating to the public what the ‘average America’ thought of the current epidemic. A new
