Introduction
In this article “A Framework for Ethical Decision Making”, the writers discuss how to
start the beginnings of ethical thinking and the process to get you there.
Summary
This article takes the approach that you don’t know what ethics are and breaks down
what are ethics and also what are not ethics. It then moves into a place where it discusses the
issues in identification of ethic. According to this article there are 5 sources of ethical standards
and they are The Utilitarian Approach, The Rights Approach, The Fairness or Justice Approach,
The Common Good Approach and The Virtue Approach. (Velasquez, et al., 2009). The writers
take a look into each of these sections and break down the meaning based on their views. The
authors then go on to show how each of these areas apply to the big picture of establishing a
baseline for the ethical framework. The article closes by summarizing the steps needed to break
down how to test if your ethical framework is working correctly.
