Expert answer:Lifeskill Activities for Special Children

Answer & Explanation:This week we start in the Lifeskills book.  Weekly there will be items to do from the book that help children acquire life skills and relay proper information.  The ‘to do’ items are included in the files attached.  While some of the work seems very simplistic remember, children don’t know basic information and have to learn how to relay and understand some of the most basic things.  Children that have developmental challenges face an even bigger struggle, often over a longer period of time, to learn these basic items.  So go through them all to put this information in your memory systems so they can be pulled out later on.  Many of these same activities can be done with children to help teach the skills needed.  Games and quizzes are often the means to get these skills and information across so have fun with it. Select 3 items for chapter 5. ch5_complete.pdfch6_to_do_items.pdfch4_3.pdfch4_3.pdfch1_all.pdfch5_complete.docxch2_2.pdf

UNIT FOUH
their lives, rather than to concentrate on removing all misbehavior
(weeds) from their lives. And, just as in gardening, parenting can
be more satisfying if we concentrate less on removing the
“weeds” and spend more time in “cultivating” happy, welladjusted children. (When we do have to remove the ‘oweeds,”
whether from the garden or our homes, we must be careful not
to injure or weaken the “plant.” Of course, some “weeds” must
still be dealt with and Units Five and Six will offer more help
there.)
SO WHY DOESN’T MY CHILD DO WHAT’S RIGHT?
We
all have the freedom
to choose the good or the bad,
Neither !ust happens.
Ever found yourself asking, “So why doesn’t my child do
what’s right?” Sure you have. In fact, all parents find themselves
asking this at some time or another. It’s an important question
and one whose answer points out something very important
about human nature.
Because so many parents ask “Why isn’t my child acting
right?” it becomes apparent that most of us have an important
misconception about human nature. Somehow we have come to
believe that there is a strong force within each of us that drives us
to do what is right. But as you recall from Unit Two, Mother
Nature gave mankind the freedom of choice that includes the
choice of deciding what is right and what is wrong. Instead of
having instincts that force us to act in certain ways, we have
intelligence and problem-solving abilities which allow us to
decide for ourselves whether clothes should be worn, whether we
should be honest with each other, or whether working is better
than lying around. So there is no instinctual force inside little
Billy pushing him to be good. That push to be good needs to
come from parents in a way that the child learns it is more
beneficial to do what is right than what is wrong.
TIMELESS VALUES
We need to keep in mind that Mother Nature has given us
almost free rein to decide what is good and what is bad, what is
right and what is wrong. While belching is a sign of appreciation
in some cultures, it is a sign of bad manners in others. One
society chooses to specialize its work force into teachers, clothiers, cooks, maids, policemen, and such, while other societies
choose a way of life where each family hunts for or grows its
own food, makes its own clothes, and has no radio or television.
Who is to say which is right, which is wrong?
Because mankind can learn to value almost anything, that
does not mean everything is of equal value. Some actions and
attributes that we can choose for ourselves are better than others.
These include such things as honesty rather than dishonesty,
health rather than sickness, wealth rather than poverty, kindness
rather than cruelty, responsibility rather than irresponsibility. If
mankind is to survive, generation after generation, it is apparent
that we need to select certain actions and values over others.
Mankind can continue to exist only if such things as dishonesty,
