Our idea for an ecommerce business is Shop4You, a grocery shopping site and mobile
application. The value proposition of the Shop4You’s site and app will be to facilitate
transactions by managing the acquisition and delivery of groceries and household products. To
generate revenue, we will use a combination of advertisements, a subscription fee, and service
fees for the purchased goods and delivery.
Shop4You’s value proposition for its customers is facilitation of transactions by
managing product acquisition and delivery. Customer can also select preferred stores as well as
delivery times and dates. Shop4You will start out offering services in a few densely populated
cities across the United States and expand over time. The target audience of Shop4You will be
urban working class adults who use mobile devices and could benefit from the time saved not
having to physically shop in a store.
Shop4You will have a hybrid revenue model and will generate revenue a number of
different ways. One way will be from subscriptions. Subscriptions will lower customer delivery
costs and to remove advertisements from the app and website. Customers who don’t subscribe
will also generate revenue through higher transaction and delivery service charges along with
advertising on the website and in the app. We will also advertise some of the deals Shop4You
will be offering. Subscriptions will range from a month to unlimited. We will also generate
revenue in customer transactions for delivery services and selling groceries.
Competitors in the market include Walmart and Instacart. While it will be hard to
compete with Walmart in price, we will beat their delivery time on orders over $25 and offer
higher quality products. We will also be more streamlined than Walmart Mobile because it will
be focused like a supermarket. We will compete with Instacart, an app and website by allowing
customers to save a cart by having a simpler app. We will also have a better supply chain and
offer other products than just food items. We will also try to differentiate our products by using
different suppliers when possible.
Shop4You recognizes the link between traditional shopping behaviors at a supermarket
and internet grocery shopping. Our app will be simple and laid out like a traditional grocery
store. Customers will be able to easily navigate, sort, and hide/show different aisles and
departments of different categories goods. Customers will also be able to login, save their cart,
and make payments through the website and the app. It is also very important to Shop4You
that transactions are secure when using the app and website. If possible we will also cooperate
with other mobile payment methods such as Android Pay.
Through our ability to compete with competitors, ease of use, and low perceived risk in
doing transactions, we will gain credibility and trust with our customers. Developing these
strong customer relationships will create repeat customers, subscribers, and advocates for our
service.
