There is little
difference between
waste and pollution.
Waste pollutes…
Pollution destroys;
causes harm.
Granted, this is an
oversimplification,
but in general I hope
you get my meaning.
I try to eliminate
“waste” by adapting it
to what I need…

Last weekend Professor
Nunez and I took a road
trip to see Earthship Ohio…
The weather was not
perfect, unlike the
companionship.
We did this to see just how
this differed from Mike’s
Earthship. Mike was an
architect, the owner of this
Earthship was not. But, in
this case, the objective was
more of an integration with
nature.

Now I am not saying that
this is great architecture.
What I do believe is that if a
couple of people (non
architects) can follow the
example of Mike and his
earthships to create a
sustainable life… what can
you do as a professional
who knows how to build?

I loved the headboard
form a door.
Here is one that I am
working on.
Actually it was
started for me as a
baby by my father. I
inherited it after my
kids were grown.
Now I am working on
it for my
grandchildren.
The door dates back
to the mid1700’s.
I am looking for a
clear safe finish just
in case the kids want to
eat the paint.

hole found on the beach at
Lee Point while looking for
Petoskey stones.
Split cork from the bottle.
Wind catcher from the cap of
the parapet wall of the FLW
Affleck House.

So, I put them all together and
made this scare crow bottle bell. In
this one I used a heart shaped
cooking tin that I found in the
garbage.
I gave it to my wife for valentines
day…
This is an example of a product
NOT related to architecture !
(I show this so that you can get an
idea of how to illustrate the
process.)

After the fire we
moved into the
cottage.
I had built this
counter form a
maple tree that
was cut down on
a client’s
property…

Everything in this fence was from “harvested” wood. The 6 x 8’s
were from my neighbors old planter. The “fencing” was from
the original fence. The cost ; sweat equity…
I have put the salvaged hinges back on / no photo yet.

found.

Water Harvest….
So, I built this shed…
for all my “stuff”.
I have 2 discarded water
heaters.
I stripped them down.
Now I will use them to
catch and hold the rain
water from the roof.
The Garage is about 4
feet above my garden. I
plan on connecting a
hose with small holes to
“drip irrigate” the
garden.

not great. I plan
on removing the
steel jacket and
painting the
actual water
heater a blue
fade.
I will use wood
from my
neighbors deck
for the eves on
both sides of the
garage.
Water is a natural resource that is at critically low levels !
