Answer & Explanation:he Course Project requires you to practice the development of a new product/service. You will have to generate your idea for an innovative, new product/service. Ideas come from many sources – your imagination, recognizing a void in the marketplace, changes in environmental factors (political, economic, social, technical), friends, relatives, and so on. Once you have the idea, you need to focus on the necessary condition to turn an idea into a developed customer product/service. To that end, you will need to focus on competitors for your innovation and how you will position it versus them. Market-research techniques that fit your innovation should be described, and you may find information in chapter 6 of the text useful . Finally, you will determine the best product-development process and launch strategy for your innovation.GuidelinesBack to TopYour typed paper (using Microsoft Word) should be no more than 12 pages in length (not including the cover page, table of contents, and reference pages), double spaced, using Times Roman 11-point font, and one-inch margins.APA citation formatPaper should go through a complete spelling and grammar check in Word.Minimum of six scholarly references cited in the paperThe DeVry Plagiarism Policy applies to this project. PRODUCT INNOVATION DESCRIPTION
2
Innovation remains a fundamental task and part of any system, which consider growth a
core entity. This entails the use of creativity to solve day-to-day problems or to improve a service
or a product. Products may be enhanced so as to offer efficient or better services that will be able
to replace the earlier ones. Services may also be upgraded to meet the current world standards.
Innovation can be carried out in different industries according to their level of
development. Environmental and geographical areas also determine the rate of growth in different
industries in different fields (Coudel, 2013). Agriculture has been an area that has received great
innovation and attracted a lot of people due to the stunning innovation developed by the industry
leaders.
This paper is based on a product innovation addressing the agricultural sector. In
Agriculture, land and water are critical resources. However, there is a great problem with these
resources since they are scarce. This necessitates for an innovative idea to be developed in order
to manage and handle the problem.
The idea of plastic planting poles can be a great and an innovative solution to cater for this
problem. This product is made from perforated plastic poles, which are 15 centimeters diameter
and 2.5 meters long. These poles have two side holes at intervals of 50 centimeters. So vegetables
like onions, kales and others can be planted from the two side holes at every interval. This well
suits kitchen gardening. Poles can be evenly distributed on the available farming land. Innovation
ideas can be sourced from different areas. They range from the environment around to magazine
and newspapers.
The idea of the plastic planting poles has been sourced from the surrounding environment.
This was through an observation on the demand of backyard kitchen gardens in residential areas.

Since land is scarce and small in these areas, the establishment of these kitchen gardens becomes
difficult. To solve the problem, the idea of the plastic planting poles was conceived.
Innovation ideas can be categorized as adjacent, transformational or core innovations. In
adjacent innovation an idea is brought to leverage an existing service (Rothkopf, 2009).In core
innovation an ideas is brought up to better an existing product or service. It is incremental. In
transformational a fresh idea is brought up to solve a particular problem. The idea of plastic
planting poles is a transformational innovation since it is a fresh idea to manage the problem of
water and land scarcity in farming.
The benefits of this product are great. One of them is that it helps people to practice kitchen
garden farming on a small piece of land. This is a great advantage since a huge piece of land is
hard to get in commercial residential areas.
Another benefit of the product is that it helps the users save of water. Since water is poured
on the pole’s base, it can seep up the pole through capillarity watering the plants, which are above
the base. Kitchen wastewater can still be used hence eliminating the need of using fresh water.
This helps in reducing the management costs. Crop management also becomes easier using this
method; this is because weeding is minimal since the plants are attached on poles.
Innovation hence helps in solving societal problems and even betters the peoples’ living
standards. It should be encouraged and supported for the betterment of society. Leaders and the
society in general should greatly reward the innovators to foster the culture of innovation.
