Answer & Explanation:ORIGINAL
QUESTION
When the results of a survey or poll are published,
the sample size and the margin of error are both given. For example: 1000
voters were surveyed and 39±2% of the voters agree with the president. In this
example N=1000 and the margin of error (MoE) is 2%.
This website lists several public opinion polls.
Search the site and find a poll where the sample size and margin of error are
given. Try to find a poll dealing with a topic in your profession or one in
which you are really interested.

Determine the following information for the selected
poll results and include in your initial post:

your own words, state the topic of the poll in a full sentence.State
the sample size and margin of error.Interpret
the results of your poll using your own words and full sentences. Note:
Depending on the question asked, your poll may have more than one poll
result – you only need to discuss one result. Looking
at the results with respect to the margin of error, do you think there is
a significant difference in the responses to the different questions being
asked? What
role could sampling have played in determining these results?

RESPONSE
Good day to you all!
The subject that I’ve chosen to do for this poll is just about as controversial
as the presidential race. I chose to view the results on religion.
a) The URL for the
website
a. http://www.pollingreport.com/religion.htm
b) The topic of this
poll
a. The topic of
this poll how those that were surveyed see the Islamic religion… and do they
believe that being in the Islamic religion brings about violence over other
religious practices.
c) Sample size and
margin of error
a. The sample size
was 1,011 adults nationwide (N = 1,011)
b. The margin of error
is ±4.
d) Interpret the results of
your poll
a. Choosing the
most recent data available (data from 12/9/15 through 12/10/15) (Religion,
2015), 38% of those surveyed said that the Islamic religion is more violent
than other religions, while 4% said they were less violent. 48% of those
surveyed, said that the Islam’s were about as violent as any other religious
group, and 10% weren’t sure about it. Majority rule says that those believing
in the Islamic religion are no more violent than a Catholic or a Baptist would
be.
e) Is there a
significant difference in the responses?
a. With the margin
of error being ±4, those that said they were more violent could be between
34%-42%. Those that said they were less violent could be between 0 – 8%. Ones that
think they are about the same as any other religion could be between 44% – 52%.
And the ones that were unsure could be between 6% – 14%. I don’t really see a
significant difference in the responses of those surveyed, no matter what their
opinion of the Islamic religion is.
f) What role could
sampling have played in determining these results?
a. Depending upon
which method was used, sampling, such as simple random sampling; could generate
a better, broader set of parameters for this survey. This type of sampling is
done at random so that “…every subset of a given size has an equal chance of
being selected.” (Evans, 2013, p. 104). The survey could have been
originally taken by, say 600 people that are strictly against foreigners being in
the U.S. at all, and 411 that either don’t care or are the religious types that
want to convert everyone else. A tainted poll may as well not be a poll that
has been given. We don’t know the basis of the applicants that took this
survey, so we will never know where their hearts lie on the issue.
