The article “Frieson Black Cultural Center Emphasizes Multicultural Programming” is
talking about an organization which is caring about the multicultural education whom recently
changed their name to “Frieson black cultural center”. The new name made a huge controversy
because it shows that the center is for black people only while it supposed to show diversity.
The office is trying to show that they are inclusive together and the fact that they don’t just have
black people, they have people from all different places. The center’s goal is to collaborate with
other organizations to promote solidarity.
First of all, I believe that this kind of organizations is important for multicultural
education because it makes the students equal and know each others, and their cultures, no mater
where they are from and what is their races. Moreover, as for me, I am an international student
who is studying in the United states where everything here is different from my country. So,
these kind of organizations will help me understand the new place and culture and make me
adapt with the people there.
But now the question is, if they want their organization to be successful and to have
multicultural students, why do they use the word “black” in its name. this word will limit their
success no matter how hard they try.
If the organization wants to have a huge success they should change their name to a better
one. The name shows that its limited for black people but that’s not their trying to show. In my
opinion I think that their name is limiting their success, and they should have a different one
which shows unity and solidarity.
