Unfortunately, many times everyone is not treated fairly within our criminal justice. Even though the call for social justice and equality is at the forefront of the media, biased policing still exists in some cases. In my experience in Los Angeles profiling is a common tactic in fighting crime. An African American or Hispanic male with tattoos is much more likely to be contacted by the police. Another bias within the criminal justice system is sentencing. As biased sentencing is no longer the norm, there have been many cases in my career in corrections where I have seen African American males have received much longer sentences for the same crimes compared to White males. However, sentencing as of lately tends to be standardized and fair. Unfortunately, I do not believe sentencing is fair across the board. According to Pollack, African Americans are also less likely to receive bail (2019, Chapter 3). These biases do not allow all to have a fair chance in life and in court. We as law enforcement professionals must control our actions and not let biases affect our job. Law enforcement and criminal justice professionals must all be held accountable for holding biases. Police, prosecutors, and judges must all remain unbiased in their duties. If they show bias in the performance of their duties, they can negatively affect the lives of innocent people. I believe that as Christians we must remember 1 Timothy 5:21 which states, “I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these instructions without partiality, and do nothing out of favoritism” (New International Bible, 1978/2011). We are commanded by this verse to treat everyone fairly and without bias. This ensures equal justice for all.As the President of the United States, a difficult decision must be made to sacrifice a few to save many more. I believe it would be the right decision to have the plane shot down, due to the number of casualties that would exist if the plane were to crash into a crowded stadium. Unfortunately, if you failed to make the decision to shoot down the plane, it is likely that all the passengers in the plane and countless fans would die. This is a horrible decision to make, however, it is the decision that would determine the impact of this event. ReferencesNew International Bible. (2011). Zondervan.
