I had to train all of my staff and I was constantly teaching by example. I preferred new staff members to watch me complete a sale or work in the camera room before taking things on themselves. Watching me work gave them a model to build on and it also showed them that every client and situation was different, so they realized that even I learned on the job. I made it my priority to get my staff excited to learn and I also had to learn new ways to demonstrate my example so that it matched how specific staff learned things (becoming equals).I believe that teaching by example builds empathy. It is taking the time to teach others and finding ways to understand each other. It builds on an ethical foundation because it is keeping someone’s needs in mind and molding how you relay your example; it is putting someone else first. In my own experience, I have gained more knowledge from professors, teachers, and managers/coworkers who took the time to get to know me, my needs, and teach to how they believe I would learn best. Rousseau believed in a bond between teacher and student and I agree that, in doing so, people tend to understand one another easier. I still remember the lessons from teachers who knew my interests and likes/dislikes. I gained respect for those people, which provided more room for me to memorize the lessons they taught.
