Solved by verified expert:This assignment involves composing an analytical report on a website (Your report should be 6-12 pages, including graphics. I will need you to provide, for example, some screen shots of the web site). The website you choose should be one from your workplace or somehow related to your major or career choice. I will attach the “progress short report memo on results of the usability study” that I did before. I already chose the website wich is my major’s depatrment website, Civil Engineering at University of South Alabama. http://www.southalabama.edu/colleges/engineering/c…I am pursuing a bachelor degree, in case if you need this info use in the report.Because everyone’s website review will have different purposes and results, there are three basic approaches to the assignment. Please choose ONE approach only:1) Analyze a website at your place of business or career interest. If the website meets effective visual rhetoric and document design standards as well as usability testing, your analytical report will show how this website is deemed effective and appropriate for the business.2) Analyze a website at your place of business or career interest. If the website needs improvement based on visual rhetoric, document design, and usability issues, write a recommendation report that researches and assesses what needs to be improved and why.3) If your place of business does not have a website, your analytical report will suggest whether or not the business needs one and what it will cost and how much time it will take to implement one. If you prove that your place of business does not need a website, then your analytical report should investigate what other technical communication methods the company could or should be using to improve its business.Of course, you need to chose one of the first two becouse I can not use number 3 obviously. So, you choose either number 1 or 2.The purpose of this case is to teach you not only visual rhetoric and document design terms of online technical communication (i.e., websites, which communicate using both text and graphics) but also how to write an analytical report. you MUST have SEVERAL cited sources for the long report. You may use other websites, articles about analyzing websites or usability studies, personal interviews, usability surveys, etc. Our USA library has plenty of good databases from which to do research: http://www.southalabama.edu/univlib/other.html

Subject: Progress Report Memo on Results of the Usability Study
Audience Recognition and Involvement
After carrying out the usability study of the University of South Alabama Civil
Engineering website, I can affirm that the website meets the needs of a good number of the users
(the students). Most of the users have a reason to return to the website for tutorials, updates and
the links to other useful websites. However, the website has low involvement of the users. This is
because the users cannot ask questions and get instant feedback since there are no links to the
institution’s social media platforms such as the twitter and Facebook where the University can
interact directly with the students. Further, the comments of the users cannot be displayed on the
University blogs.
Home page
The website’s homepage has a very informative and appealing graphics. It has a very
interesting introduction. The links on the website’s home page leading to the subsequent links
are effective for the users. However, the identification information provided on the home page is
very limited. It only has the name of the services’ provider in this case University of South
Alabama. There is no email or address provided.
Linked Pages:
The website has linked pages. They provide a clear heading to the reader on what they
are viewing. However, the headings locations and font size are not consistent.
Navigation:
The navigation on the website is effective. This is because the website allows easy return
from the link pages to the homepage by just clicking the “home” link. Further, the website allows
easy navigation in between the linked pages such that the linked pages are redirected and opened
in a new tab.
2
Document Design:
The website uses the graphic effects which makes them suitable for the content; they are
not distracting nor causing any delay when loading. The website also uses color effectively in a
way that is suitable to the content. The website provides an effective background suitable to the
content and creating effective contrast for reading the text. The website uses the highlighting
techniques effectively in a way that is effective to the content and not distracting. Also, the
design allows for the accessibility initiative. This makes it easy for the users to view some
contents. However, there is the need to improve the document design by incorporating audios so
as to emphasize on the website content.
Style:
The website is not concise in the provision of the contents. It has used lengthy words,
sentences, and paragraphs making it difficult for the readers to understand the content. The users
in most cases have to scroll down to view the content. There is need to be concise in language
such that the message on the website should be provided in a very simple and clear way for the
readers to understand the content easily.
Grammar:
The website uses very gender neutral words in conveying the message. The language
used recognizes diversity and this makes the website to attract a wide range of viewers. The
website has few grammatical errors. There is need to improve on those few grammar issues to
enable the readers to understand the content easily.
Conclusively, the website needs improvement in the areas of Audience Recognition and
Involvement when it comes to the handling of the user’s complaints. In this, the website should
allow the users to ask questions and get instant feedback through social media platforms such as
twitter and Facebook which should be linked to the University. Also, the website should improve
on grammar and the style part of it by making the content simple and clear way for the readers to
understand the content easily.
