Solved by verified expert:My Professor is taking me to the limits of my patience!!!Now she wants me to just talk about adding a course or removing one in my previous essay, which I rather stick to adding course.I would want to state that I would want to add molecular technique course , in which it prepares students for techniques that are needed for job market. For instance cell culture, cloning, transfection and western blotting are all needed for most jobs posted online. Because these techniques are widely used in many aspects of biotechnology studies, including cancer, stem cell, protein interactions and …. research areas.I will attach my changes for you, maybe that will help?”Hi Negar,Presently, you are not responding to the assignment. You need to make an argument for adding or removing one required core course for your major at CSUEB. Please revise your essay so that you make and support such an argument. I encourage you to reread the assignment and my comments in the course materials for this week.Dale”Please let me know if you need any additional info?

Studying in colleges and universities in the United States is very costly. According to
Briana Boyington’s article “See 20 Years of Tuition Growth at National Universities” the
average cost of tuition for in-state, private and out of state universities has been increased by at
least 200 percent! As a result, many families acquire loans to enroll in colleges to get their
degrees. Following the large amount of expenses they have, the students are always striving to
manage to pay government debts and live a decent life. In the long run, time is very limited thus
people are unable to find a good paying job to manage their expenses immediately after finishing
their education.
This essay aims to give details on my major which is biological sciences at college degree
level. Biological science refers to the study of life as well as living organisms and also their
chemical and physical structure. The creation of this degree aims at meeting the needs of
scholars yearning for a solid basis in the life of sciences. Globally, many students are interested
in studying biological sciences as a step to their future goals and also for complementary
discipline away from the life sciences. For one to acquire the necessary qualifications, they must
attend colleges and universities that offer major in biological sciences (Boyington, Briana, 2017).
This is because the biology bachelor’s curriculum coursework cannot prepare students
adequately for what life has to offer in the field of biological sciences. Instead, it requires
Keramati
students to take many general education classes that are not helpful in looking for employment or
advance in education.
Biological science is about asking a question and finding a way to give a proper answer.
Although students must have a clear understanding of concepts before even making an
appropriate scientific issue, it is very crucial for biology majors to get hands-on experience with
every lecture class they are taking. Without hands-on experience, the students may forget
concepts faster than when they see and feel the procedure. Also without having experience, it is
tough for students to find a job, or even be successful in graduate school. It is expected from a
student who holds a degree in the biological science field to know some techniques and
laboratory skills before going further with their education.
On the other hand, in the job market, the employer requires the student to see the method
to grow bacteria, know how to use a microscope and work as a team besides understanding the
concept even to consider them for their job. Without having the laboratory course, how can the
poor student who has paid for tuition as well as their time, learn this technique and skills required
for the job? But if the university needs a student to take the lab course with the lecture at the
same time, the student will have a chance to work as a team. They will also grow their bacteria,
see how they multiply in real life under a microscope and ask and answer different questions that
may come to their mind or their partner in lab work. With the second scenario that the student
had to take the laboratory course beside lecture, not only did they gain experience for the job’s
requirement, but also it is almost impossible for them to forget that concept.
However, general education is a challenge to higher education. Though many different
courses are offered by universities and colleges that are very useful for students, setting the right
requirement for those classes is very essential because of the expenses in United States education
Keramati
system. For example, there are many required general education classes that every student has to
take for them to get their degree. I believe that general education classes should be mandatory for
scholars who are undecided on what to the course to major on. Unlike the rest, these students do
not feel reluctant to consume their time on the necessary classes because of they no higher
education priorities. Personally, though I had a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Genetics, I was
required to take fifteen units of different classes such as ethics, history, and sports. Despite the
fact that all the courses are necessary, I feel that I should have used the money instead to enroll
for another bioscience and learn more techniques as well as concepts to have more knowledge in
the field of my choice.
General education classes are good but they should be optional to help students who are
undecided about their major. Although having general knowledge is very good, yet the with
education system in United States and expenses, it is necessary for students to learn as much as
they can during the time they set for themselves and families to be in college. After getting
decent jobs and being able to afford to live, then they can choose to come back to schools for
taking those classes. With the limited time of students and high expenses, students need to be
more focused on what is mainly necessary for their future life as a holder of biology bachelor’s
degree.
Having a higher education is very important in the 21st century as it exposes one to
career benefits. It is a driving force of increase in the rate of unemployment. For example,
research shows that the rate of unemployment for people without a higher education is higher
compared to the people with higher education. It is easy for one to change careers if they have
completed higher education for they are exposed to more career choices. Additionally, having a
higher education helps one become more sensitive to cultural diversity and can respect the
Keramati
beliefs of all kinds of people all over the world. Again, by having a higher people will have a
better understanding of each field, as well as a higher chance of getting jobs.

In most job applications, there are many techniques that are nowadays as a requirement for
applicants to know. Most of the technique involves biotechnology aspects, including growing
cells, manipulating cells with introducing a new gene or virus to make that cell produce or do
something that it could not do before, clone (make more) cells and also studying proteins. It
would be very necessary for all biology students to participate in a class that covers all modern
Keramati
and hot topic molecular techniques to be able to get their experience needed for job markets.
With offering this class as a requirement, students will not only learn that if they have interest in
pursuing a career related to the field, but also they will have a very better chance of getting jobs
as soon as they graduate.

Week 7
Thank you for your good work with arguments last week–week six. I will upload the grades for
weeks and six by Sunday night.
As you know, your final draft of your essay (WP1) will be due toward the end of the quarter. All
final drafts of all essays will be due then. Please be sure to read the general feedback thread that I
posted in 5b last week. I suggest that you do not wait until the end of class to compose final
drafts of your essays. I will create a place for you to post them later in the quarter. Additionally,
I will go over Turnitin near the end of the quarter; you will be submitting all of your final drafts
of your essays to Turnitin, but I will not do that until the end of the quarter. In the meantime, I
suggest that you complete your final draft for essay WP1 by the end of the seventh week of class,
but you can always come back to it to make tiny modifications. Feel encouraged to drop by my
office hours to discuss your work. We can, for example, talk about any questions or concerns
you have about your essay.
This week you will complete a draft of your second essay. With that said, let’s
look at this week’s work.
7a) Introducing your second essay (WP2)
This essay is shorter than the first essay. For the second essay (WP2), you will make and support
an argument about the curriculum of your major. You will integrate citations when necessary
and will write sentences that best reflect your good ideas. Now that you have worked with ethos,
logos, and pathos, please consider how you can use your awareness of these rhetorical appeals to
strengthen your own writing. I am not asking you to write about ethos, logos, and pathos. I am
asking you to be aware of how you use ethos (e.g., establish your credibility), logos (e.g. in terms
of how your structure your argument and essay), and pathos in your writing.
Second essay: WP2
Have you ever thought about how you could improve your major? Perhaps you have taken a
required class for your major that you found did not best serve the overall major or you may have
wished that a class was required for the major because it would better prepare students in your
major for their future professions.
In an essay of 800 words argue for the addition or deletion of a required class for your major
(e.g., not general education requirements and so on). To support your argument, use two relevant
sources, such as your department’s website/handbook, academic or professional journals, or
articles from one of the newspapers noted in WP2. Keep in mind that you will enhance or
detract from your own ethos based upon the sources you choose. You might find it useful to
consider what sources will help you best support your claim–your thesis. Would a journal
article, for example, best help you, or would a course catalog from another university best
support your claim? You will need a works cited (MLA) or references (APA) page for this
paper. If you are unsure about a source, please check with me. You may not use Wikipedia or
equivalent sources for this essay.
This is a thesis driven essay. I encourage you to use a “because clause” for your provisional
thesis because doing so will help you use a claim and reason in your thesis. Be sure to explain
and support your reasons while also giving details about the class you would add or delete so that
a reader outside your discipline will understand what the class is about and how it relates to the
major. It is important to remember that you are not making an argument only about what would
be best for you. Your argument is about what would best serve the students in your major in
terms of deleting or adding a required major course. You may not write about modifying an
existing course. Your first draft due by 11:59 pm Sunday.
As you probably already know from consulting the course schedule, I am not assigning you
additional work this week. Please focus your energies on developing your argument for your
second essay and selecting relevant sources to support your thesis/claim.
Due date:
7a due by 11:59 PM Sunday
