Research Proposal
Research Proposal: drinking age, legal and why has America had so many problems with
underage drinking?
Introduction
Drinking and drinking age have been issues of debate for very many years. This item of
discussion has not come to the limelight in the recent years, but instead, it is an old issue. The
government has taken mixed stands on the issue praising and scrutinizing the problems
surrounding it through putting several matters to justify or criticize the rationale of each
argument. Heavy drinking among the college and university students has been on the rise, and
the attention of everyone from stakeholders to the general public getting attracted to the issue.
This paper proposes to research on the issue of drinking age, and the legal issues
surrounding the drinking age in the United States of America. It will look at the possible
implications of any alteration to the right time of drinking. e.g., reducing the age further down.
The paper will look into the reasons given by the proposing side versus the opposing team that

drinking age should be lowered. Binge drinking will be explored in detail and whether is in any
way different from underage drinking.
Purpose statement
This research paper aims to identify and explain the current state of affairs with regards
to age and drinking, and the effect of the legal issues surrounding the argument. The paper will
research on the possible reasons that make young people want to drink and the potential
implications of allowing them to drink right from a younger age. The research will also seek
information on the frequency of illegal drinking among the young people. The effects on the
economy by young age getting involved in alcohol will get examined.
Research Questions
1. What is the difference between underage drinking and binge drinking? Which of the two is the
actual problem?
2. What are the severe differences between starting to drink at the age of 21 and starting to drink
at the age of 18?
3. Are there countries in other parts of the world that allow drinking at an age lower than that in
the United States? If yes, what are the results of the same?
4. Are stringent laws on drinking age the solution to the problem of too much drinking?
Insert surname3
5. What is the relationship between the number of accidents caused by drunk drivers and those
caused by sober drivers?
6. What is the possible outcome of introducing children to alcohol at a younger age and making
them understand the concept of responsible drinking?
7. Which method is more effective in curbing drinking? Teaching or implementing laws?
Main Claims
I hypothesize that I will find out that the urge to drink amongst the youth is just similar to
the call to have food on the table when one is hungry. I claim that I will find out that the number
of young people involved in drinking is higher than is reported by the National statistics. A
higher percentage of the population support the idea that the age of getting involved in active
alcoholism should not be changed for the good of the USA. Creation of laws without creating a
way of teaching the youth is almost useless.
Research strategies
1. I will read the articles about drinking as stipulated in the constitution. I expect this to give me
an overview of the entire laws governing drinking in the United States.
2. I will use the training about the library to source magazines, daily newspapers, and journals to
gain a clearer perspective on the issue.

3. I will seek help from my instructor on the best journals to read regarding the matter of the
proposal to amend the laws to 18 years.
4. I will interview college students to have a view on why young people drink and whether they
know the implications of underage drinking.

Conclusion
The issue of drinking and the legal issues surrounding the matter is a matter of debate. This
has been seen in the difference between various countries on the matter. The number of views is a
lot and it is difficult to inculcate all of them into the constitution. It is however agreed upon that
underage drinking is bad any measures need to be in place to curb it.

Research Paper Outline
Thesis: Nuclear Power is not healthy for us and the environment
Introduction: As the population increases the world needs new energy sources which are
efficient, environmental friendly, faster, and cheaper. Many government find the solution
building more nuclear plants and they, and the energy manufacturers advocate the benefits
of the nuclear power. Can we believe what do they try to impose to us? We experienced
couple of disaster in the history and h]none can promise us they are not going to occur again.
It is not a risk we can take for producing more energy. On the top of that nuclear power
brings us another big issue; waste.
I. What is nuclear power
A. How does it work?
1. Basic material
2. The final product
B. They think they need nuclear power.
1. Because our population is increasing we need more energy.
2. Energy manufacturers are looking cheaper way to produce energy.
3. They don’t see it as a risk.
C. They believe other energy sources killed more people in timE
1. Air Pollution
2. Energy accidents
II. They are serious risks of using nuclear power.
A. Nuclear power is radioactive
1. Radioactivity causes cancer.
a. It causes cancer by changing the structure of the cell.
b. We take it to our system through the air, ground, and interaction.
2. Plants absorb the radioactivity.
a. It is not the environment friendly.
b. It harms plants and all the animals which eat plants and the animals
eat those animals.
c. High carbon emissions
B. Technology can increase safety, but there will always be risks with nuclear power.
1. Human related mistakes may occur in a power plant
2. Natural disaster may cause a nuclear disaster.
3. It’s always open to a terrorist attack on nuclear plants.
4.It is almost impossible to fix consequences of a nuclear disaster.
C. Waste of the nuclear power is serious problem.
1. Bickering over the method for storage
2. Site for the repository
III. They are fatal experiences in the history about nuclear power.
A. Chernobyl disaster.
1. Why did it happen
2. Consequences
a. Fast affects
b. Affects in time
B. Fukushima disaster
1. Why did it happen
2. Consequences
a. Fast affects
b. Affects in time
C. Three Mile Island accident
1. Why did it happen
2. Consequences
a. Fast affects
b. Affects in time
IV. We should prefer alternative energy sources.
A. There are different types of renewable energy methods.
1. Wind Power
2. Solar Power
3. Hydro Power
B. Benefits of the alternative sources
1. Long term benefits
2. Short term benefits
Conclusion: We are responsible for the future of the environment. We should concern about a
livable environment for ourselves and for our kids. If we build our future by focusing on short
term benefits such as money, one day we might not able to find an environment to spend the
money we made. governments and energy manufacturers advocate the nuclear power
because they focus on money and “saving the day”. We can’t trust them and accept the fact
that whatever they say, nuclear power is not good for us.
