My project will show a network schedule showing using the
precedence diagramming method. In constructing a home certain
work packages must be completed and pass inspection prior to the
ability to start the next work package, this is why a precedence
diagram is best for this project. One can easily see the critical path
indicated by the red and the non-critical activities indicated in blue.
One can also view the diagram and see the start date, end date, how
many days to complete, and who is responsible for that activity. As
project manager, I can hand out every morning during our morning
meeting a network diagram for each work package showing the
relationship to each activity in that work package so who is
responsible for completion can see when to start, end, completions
percentage, and who is to complete the task.

Project Management: Work Packages
2
Project management is an important aspect in the development of a new development.
The primary focus in this field is to ensure that a developed equipment, system or program meets
the client’s specifications and is delivered within the stipulated time and budget constraints
(Valacich, 2015). It is the art of managing the project and its deliverables with the intention of
producing a finished product or service. Project development and execution stand as an essential
activities prior the launch of new equipment. Work packages in a project schedule are an
essential collection of activities that allow the project team to have a better of control of resource
allocation. This paper presents a discussion of updated changes in the project schedule and the
primary measures that form part of a successful project delivery.
The project schedule has been updated about the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
phases. The schedule has been divided into seven work packages that comprise of; pre-project
planning, project initiation, management activities, stadium construction iterations, testing,
production and project retirement. Each work package in the project schedule is comprised of
interrelated tasks. The work package, pre-project planning, has been introduced inclusive of
three additional tasks, formulation of preliminary designs, and the establishment of project
charter and setup of the project office. The projection initiation work package was also introduce
to group the activities involved after the pre-planning phase. The product work package has two
additional tasks that are involved in the project management after testing and inspection has been
completed. Project retirement has also been introduced in the project schedule to group the
activities involved in project closure.
The project schedule alterations and updates are attributed to the slight changes in the client’s
needs. The client advocated for a need in the changes of the materials of the installation of roof
tracks. The project stakeholders also demanded to have a brief overview and understanding of

the project scope. The ideology behind this change was to make effective decisions regarding the
development and installation of the main systems in the Baseball stadium. The project changes
were also made after the project team consulted the stakeholders on its arising needs who
approved to increase the amount funds initially laid down.
About the project changes, the cost of the project will increase from the initially estimated $2B
to $3.2B. The 1.5B funding increase is attributed to the need of additional construction materials
and the human resources to play a part in the additional tasks. The project requires the new
materials to fulfill the change in the installation of the stadium’s roof tracks. Moreover, the
materials can be obtained from different vendors with the help of the company’s business
consultants and contractors. The additional funds will be used to cater for the additional project
team, developers, and engineers, who will be involved in the installation of the roof tracks.
Management of work plan and monitoring of the scheduled budget is one the primary measures
in delivering a successful project. Once the project has been planned, it is important to review the
work plan on a regular basis to determine its progress regarding schedule and budget (Burke,
2013). Since the development of the baseball stadium project is a more comprehensive project,
the work plan can be review every fortnight. The project team should take note of each activity
and ensure that the work-plan is updated once a deliverable is successful. Some funds spent in
the project development should be within the client’s and the company’s stipulated constraints.
Besides time and scope, the project manager should ensure that each task is assigned a job-fit
individual. The installation activities, for example, should have the right installation mechanics
with competent skills and experience. Moreover, each role and responsibility of the project team
should be defined. The project will be successful if every individual on the team is fully aware of
the responsibilities and understands the concepts involved in the project (Burke, 2013). Proper

scope management is another primary measures that ensure project success. The full utilization
of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), would allow the project team to fully manage scope
on every hierarchical point.
The use of project management has become a fundamental methodology in the introduction and
development of a new facility. Its undertakings and processes allow a project team to control the
outcome of a new development. As such, the responsible parties can prevent any intrusion and
ensure that the project meets the client’s time, budget and quality constraints. The changes in the
project schedule are attributed to needing of new installation materials. These changes have led
to an increase in project costs by 1.2B to following the need of new materials and resources to
participate in the installation. Ideally, a successful project is one that is within the client’s time,
quality and budget constraints.
