Solved by verified expert:we have six people here, you have to create a PPT for the presentation, and each page in PPT should have a comments to explain the content in the page. so we will just read the comments in the presentation.

Presentation
General Information
Each presentation should follow a standard presentation method in PowerPoint. All
presentations must have these seven parts. Here are the content headings that are required.
1. Title and introductions of the group.
2. Purpose.
3. Learning outcomes (specific >things= students must know) B think about what you want
them to know and make only a few short learning outcomes. No more than three or
four learning outcomes.
4. Main body (follow the guidelines I have given).
5. Review of the main points (VERY SHORT!).
6. Sources of Information (show website URLs).
7. Learning activity.
Please give me a copy of the PowerPoint or down-load it to my USB storage device (jump
drive). The entire presentation including learning activity should be no more than 30
minutes.
The learning activity is meant to be a way of having your fellow students retain what they have
heard. Be creative: a quiz, relay race, Jeopardy game, etc. Feel free to divide the class by
sections of the auditorium, pairs or groups of three students, regular class groups, impromptu
groups or even the whole class. Remember that this activity must fit into the 30 minutes.
You may each present a part of the topic or have one or more people give the talk. Everybody
will be rated by the group for their effort in helping put together the talk. Each person will
complete a Confidential Peer Review form.
Specific Guidance and Information on Politics and Environmental Geology
In general the public does not appreciate the problems of living with an active earth. You know
about hazardous earth processes. What do governments believe and understand about geological
processes?
Your topic is about politics and the way it may interfere with an understanding of hazardous
geological processes. Have fun on this! I have put a number of thoughts on the list below so
you can see the scope of this topic. Chose what you think is important.
You will probably want to remind the class of what the scientific method is and how plausible
hypotheses are generated. There are several ways of working toward a conclusion. Here are
some:
• Collect data and develop a hypothesis from it (deduction).
• Propose a hypothesis and then test it with data (induction).

Propose multiple hypotheses to test and reduce possibilities to one hypothesis [if
possible].
Use peer review.
I think you must answer the question “How does politics affect scientific research and
communication to the public on climate change and the understanding of hazardous geological
processes?” Politics can be major ideologies, the policies of a country or entity, or it can be
corporate politics.
Consider the role of politics in some or all of the following.
• Understanding and communicating climate change information.
• Assessing hazardous geological processes in an area.
• Setting land use by-laws or legislation.
• Planning for building codes, enforcement of codes, public education and policies that
make use of science and scientific logic.
• Enforcement of “rules” through inspection, etc.
All of these require resources of people and funding as well as planning and enforcement.
Denials? Yes. Consider President Ronald Reagan’s denial of climate change. President Donald
Trump? Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper? Are there other examples of denial coupled
with politics? Why does this happen in climate change? Is it ‘visible’ elsewhere in scientific
investigations? Consider the topic of “evolution.”
And finally how do people, movies, the courts or individuals make changes? Think about the
impact of the movie An Inconvenient Truth. Was the movie truthful or did it stretch the truth?
Al Gore has a new TED talk which might be useful.
And lastly consider Keller’s five fundamental principles in relation to politics.
• Discuss politics and environmental geoscience in terms of Keller’s five fundamental
concepts. [You can add answers to these concepts as you do your presentation, or you
can put them into one section.] o Human population growth. More people means more
resources needed and more population possibly in harm’s way of hazardous earth
processes.
o Sustainability. Sustainability is important – How does politics prevent clear thinking
about ensuring the next generation has resources (including money) and is prepared
for hazardous earth processes?
o Earth as a system. How does the earth system influence our leaders’ choices of
action? o Hazardous earth processes. How does political action interfere with
preparation for hazardous earth processes? o Scientific knowledge and values.
Science plays an active role in researching, describing and perhaps mitigating
hazardous earth processes. How can geoscientists get more credibility in dealing
with government agencies and leaders? How do they get “people” to listen to them
and their warnings?
Here are some fascinating links.
