Assignment #2
Introduction
The issue of environmental degradation has been overlooked for the longest time.
This has involved the degradation of the environment for a very long time. This has however
seen many local and international organizations lobby against poor environmental
management (Brunnée & University of Toronto, 2017). Laws have also been implemented to
ensure that the principles of suitable environmental development. Courts and other relevant
institutions have sought to adjudicate over environmental issues and this has led to the
creation of the environmental justice system.
How Environmental Agents Impact the Environment
Air pollution is one of the many environmental justice issues that have become very
prevalent in the US over the years. The issue of air pollution is not alien as it has existed for
very many years. Air pollution dates back to the agrarian revolution, the industrial revolution
and eventually to the technological era. Time after time, there are a number of alien agents
that have been released to the atmosphere resulting in environmental degradation (Beyerlin,
2016). Air pollution has been discussed in various forums including social, political and legal
forums. This goes to show just how much weight has been put on this issue.
The Health Problems Associated with This Issue
Air pollution comes as a result of very many issues in the environment. The
introduction of foreign agents and materials to the environment eventually leads to

environmental degradation. In essence, the atmosphere is made up of particular components.
Hazards waste brings chemical and reactions that result in air pollution. The ecological
structure in the environment is also affected by the introduction of foreign chemicals. The
flow of gases that support human life, plant life as well as other human activities are altered
and this results in major environmental challenges. An example, Global warming harms
living things. It is warming much more rapidly than expected because of additional
greenhouse gases being released into the environment from air pollution. This is because
when fuels are burned, some pollutants released are greenhouse gases. Plants convert carbon
dioxide into oxygen and use the carbon to grow larger. Global warming is causing changes to
the places people, plants and animals live around the world.
Steps Being Taken to Address This Issue
There is very little doubt that air pollution is likely to leave the atmosphere the same
way it was prior to the pollution. Apart from changing atmospheric patterns, air pollution has
major effects of the health of people. These health problems may be short-term or even longterm depending on the kind of exposure that the people have been subjected to. Some of the
health risks that people are exposed to in cases where pollution is prevalent include
respiratory diseases that are very serious in most cases. Lung disease is a common disease
affecting the airways. It is a form of bronchi. There is other air born disease when there is
lead from pant or living in older houses. Skin infections are also very popular in areas where
the atmosphere has been contaminated. Air pollution consequently results in other forms of
pollution like water pollution (Beyerlin, 2016). This has a direct effect on the health of the
people who consume this water. The effects of these forms of pollution may be seen from
generation to generation. This can be affirmed from the world war after the bombing of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The effects of this pollution have been felt from generation to
generation. Children in the 21st century still suffer from the deformities as a result of the

pollution that took place centuries ago. Families had to stay inside due to the air raid. The
effects of the radiation, food scarcity, and economical downfall continued to take lives.
Solutions to These Problems
Environmental justice issues are very important in any legal systems in as much as
very little weight is attached to them. In a bid to solve environmental justice issues, there are
several legislations that have been implemented to ensure that there is a clear framework on
how environmental justice issues need to be handled (Brunnée, 2017). International laws,
treaties, and conventions have been signed to ensure that they are binding on all the member
states. The convention on nuclear safety, United Nations conventions are among the many
treaties that have been signed to monitor environmental pollution. These laws stipulate the
guidelines for these member states and most importantly they give implications of certain
atmospheric activity that may cause air pollution. Coming up with programs and initiatives
that are aimed at avoiding environmental degradation is very important. Creating public
awareness on the need to promote a clean environment by avoiding environmental
degradation and taking all the necessary precautions are very important if the initiative is to
be successful (Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., 2008). Sensitizing people on what they stand to gain
and what they stand to lose by supporting the motion is very important in propelling this
motion forward.
Recommendations to This Environmental Issue
There are a number of recommendations that I could make on the issue of air pollution.
Dealing with the effects of air pollution is far much worse than taking precautionary
measures towards dealing with the side effects of air pollution from one generation to another
(Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, 2011). The preventative
programs are therefore very critical in ensuring that they keep up with the constantly

environmental patterns in the society. I would also recommend that the laws that have
outdated be scrapped off in a bid to ensure that only environmental laws that are progressive
are followed. At the same putting in place important policies to mitigate those who go against
the law. Therefore, environmental justice is the key to achieving environmental harmony in
various parts of the ecology. This can be achieved by putting in place relevant laws that will
ensure that the principles of environmental justice prevail. Prevention is obviously better than
cure and this has been learned from various countries that have expected first-hand
environmental degradation. Looking into the future issue, environmental justice is likely to be
achieved with the numerous legislation that has been put in place.
