Here the learning logs week by week and goals:
First week:
Goal 1: To improve schedule process.
This week at Symphony Manor I did not work on this goal. On the day that I did
work, I only did orientation. I just learned more about the Symphony Manor, their
residents, fire and life Safety, food safety and how I can assist the residents.
Goal 2: Information exchange.
This week at Symphony Manor I did not work on this goal. On the day that I did
work, I only did orientation. I just learned more about the Symphony Manor, their
residents, fire and life Safety, food safety and how I can assist the residents.
Goal 3: Streamline the Operations.
This week at Symphony Manor I did not work on this goal. On the day that I did
work, I only did orientation. I just learned more about the Symphony Manor, their
residents, fire and life Safety, food safety and how I can assist the residents.
Second week:
Goal 1: Improve the scheduling process at Symphony Manor
I consulted Miss Stacy, the Symphony Manor Manager regarding some of the key
process I saw in time management to which we both came to a conclusion that there is
need for more focused timing in the scheduling process. The main problem was the over
lapping of staff duties such that some have to squeeze their tasks together which is
compromising on the quality of service.
Goal 2: Learn the operations management process at Symphony Manor.
I spent a lot of time learning how the kitchen at Symphony Manor plans the meals
and diets of all the residents at the facility. Meal planning and hospitality services take a
lot of time hence the need to understand more regarding the process and eliminate
sources of time wastage. Learning about the different departments improved my
understanding of how the facility staff integrate their work and form a simultaneous
working relationship
Goal 3: Streamline Operations Management.
Having spent the week at the facility, I am coming up with a plan that will enable
me to streamline the operations management processes at Symphony Manor. I have learnt
the culture at the manor and how the residents make an effort towards their dieting
programs. Since each resident makes a suggestion regarding their meals plans and what
they prefer, it is prudent that their preferences be considered in the operations
management process so that the satisfaction and comfort ability are high.
Week #3:
Goal 1: Improve the scheduling process at Symphony Manor.
There were many activities in which interactions with the residents such as the happy
hour and the trips to the movie theatres. Through these interactions, we as the staff are
able to form a good bond with the residents and we are able to learn what they want to do
and at what time they would want to do it. We then use the information in planning the
programs.
Goal 2: Learn the operations management process at Symphony Manor.
Meetings were held throughout the week with the main business being the planning and
controlling of the operations needed per week. The meetings allowed me to learn exactly
what goes in to the planning and scheduling process at the facility which in turn allows e
to understand where possible improvements can come through. I am now getting to a
position where I can start suggesting credible changes to the operations management
process.
Goal 3: Streamline Operations Management.
There was a lot of exercise that involved refining the emergency contact lists for all the
residents at the Symphony Manor. By refining the emergency contact list, Symphony
Manor will be able to improve on the emergency response time when there is an
emergency. It also ensures that the emergency contacts can be located in one central
place at all given times. The centralization of the information ensures that emergency
protocols and lag time will be improved going in to the future.
Week #4:
Goal 1: Improve the scheduling process at Symphony Manor.
There were many activities this week. I worked this week at Woodholme assisted living
for two days. I helped the memory care residents in the activity hours in Woodholme.
Also, I went with the residents to shopping trip. It was hard for me in the beginning, but
after I asked them what they looking for that helped me to get what they want easily.
These activities make me day by day closer to the residents and able to participate in the
planning of future activities.
Goal 2: Learn the operations management process at Symphony Manor.
I started the work by the weekly staff meeting with the Executive director and staff. Also,
I continued to work on the marketing event, which will be in November at Symphony
Manor. I also sent an email with the marketing and sales director in Baltimore sun
newspaper to know about the printing and other publishing prices because we need to do
some stuff for the marketing event. One of the most important stations this week as well I
helped to organize the new binders, and get rid of old binders when I went to Woodholme
with the executive director for two days.
Goal 3: Streamline Operations Management.
This week I learned how to fill the consent form for the flu shot, and collected all the
information from the residents files to find information about flu shot fall 2017. I helped
to write a list all the residents who will get the flu shots and contacted with their families
for permission via email or phone. Also, I completed the emergency contact list.
Week #5:
Goal 1: Improve the scheduling process at Symphony Manor.
I started this week with residents’ activities. Finally allowed me the opportunity to be the
leader in the activity hours without an assistant. I helped them to do some small
exercises, coloring, massage and others. Dealing with the residents began to change my
personality. I became a social and practical collaborator.
Goal 2: Learn the operations management process at Symphony Manor.
I spent this week in arranging the new residents admissions papers work. And I helped to
organize the chart organization guide. I learned that the admissions paperwork should
organize in a non-random way, but in a certain order. After this week, I am sure that I
have only a few steps to get a complete understanding of how to organize files, binders
and forms.
Goal 3: Streamline Operations Management.
This week did not allow me the opportunity to work on this goal, unfortunately, but I am
sure that the next few days at Symphony Manor will carry a lot to work on this goal and
learn from it.
Week #6:
Goal 1: Improve the scheduling process at Symphony Manor.
My daily participation in the activity hours with the residents made me a practical,
dynamic and highly focused person. Because dealing with more than one elderly at the
same time at the beginning was very difficult, but now after six weeks I used to. I think
this is the first goal that I come close to achieving it fully and adequately because most of
my work with the residents.
Goal 2: Learn the operations management process at Symphony Manor.
The weekly management meeting with the staff has helped me understand how to solve
the problems faced by some departmental managers. This meeting makes the staff ready
for all the situations they can face. As a person of the meeting, I have shared with them
what I have done in the past week and have received the instructions that must be worked
out this week.
Goal 3: Streamline Operations Management.
The most important thing I have done to achieve this goal this week is helping organize
the residents on the flu clinic day. I checked that each of them received his flu shot by
matching the name with the picture and signing the doctor. Then took them back to their
assigned places. I learned how the teamwork of the staff at the same time and how to deal
with the reactions of residents to achieve the comfort and health environment for them.
Week #7:
Goal 1: Improve the scheduling process at Symphony Manor.
Because I have become an important part of managing the activity in the memory care
floor and I am also looking for different kinds of activities that can help in improving and
developing hours of activity. This week I have done a lot of research to find things that
can be a source of interest and happiness for the residents. In recent weeks I have noticed
the interest of residents in cosmetics and their almost daily waiting for the beauty hour.
So I brought them some cosmetics and we played Bingo and cosmetics were gifts for
them. There was great interaction with them while playing to get those gifts. And also
noticed their interest in watching programs that contain videos of children and their
interaction and happiness when watching them. So I decided to change some things they
used to watch and repeat them. Of course after taking the permission of the director of
memory care. The residents were accustomed to fairly classic films. So I decided to show
them movies containing the kids and at the same time be a comic noticed the interaction
and happiness.
Goal 2: Learn the operations management process at Symphony Manor.
Such as attending the weekly meeting of the staff working on the clarity of the work
schedule and how to proceed. And also makes me fully prepared if I am asked to do any
work because I will have a complete background on what happens within each
department because that the directors of departments participate in the meeting with
everything that happens in each department.
Goal 3: Streamline Operations Management.
This week did not allow me the opportunity to work on this goal, unfortunately. My focus
now is on changing the three goals to be more specific on the activities in memory care.
