Expert answer:Intro to Music Essay

Solved by verified expert:NEED TO WRITE ABOUT 450 WORDS/ EXAMPLES OF OTHER PEOPLES WRITINGS ARE ATTACHEDThe Concert Blogs represent an account of your impressions and observations made during a performance of live music. You may attend any kind of performance from blues to a classical recital. There are two approaches: go listen to something you really like, or go listen to something with which you have no experience. The latter offers a richer experience and gives you a greater palette upon which to draw. The musical event that you attend must be from this semester since I will ask you to listen for specific features.Given ticket prices for the most musical performances, you are not expected to lay out top dollar, or any dollars for that matter, for such a performance. You may go to a major concert event if it was already in your plans to do so, but you may also choose a smaller, cheaper (even free) venue. There is live music in clubs and even on campus, however, and the efforts of musicians who are not famous are no less sincere.I am interested in your observations. While I do not expect full blown descriptions of musical style since you have been exposed to only the tip of the iceberg, supply what you can. Certainly providing a bit of history about the music and musicians should not be difficult–classical programs usually furnish this and there is information readily available online about popular musicians. If you choose to hear a local band and no info is available, then you might have to introduce yourself to these artists. That might not always be possible, but try. You might make new friends, although there might be some trepidation if the band you choose is really scary! If the band does not want to talk to you, then it is what it is.Whenever possible, you should include a video of the group at work. With YouTube, there is a wealth of music videos, very likely including the local performers whose music you might have attended. This includes everything from high school jazz orchestras to local rock bands. If you cannot find a video for the specific performer, you might find a short video exemplifying the style or the specific piece you heard.

Example 1
For this concert blog i decided to see two artists I like very much. Luckily for me, they
collaborated on an album which turned out to be like no other. These artists are rap veteran
Nas and reggae artist Damian Marley. Yes, I am talking about the Hip-Hop legend from
Queens and the superstar son of Bob Marley himself. This concert was based on their album
“Distant Relatives”. The album and music pays homage to our collective connection to Africa,
being the birthplace of mankind. Interestingly enough, Nas and Damian not only played their
album, but also their own hit records. This was refreshing as they performed with a live band.
This was especially different for Nas since Hip Hop performances are usually done with a DJ.
It worked out well since many of Nas’ songs are sampled jazz and soul records, which can be
reproduced in live concert.
Their performance was that of a string band mixed with a DJ to fill in for modern sounds and
effects that Hip-Hop so often brings into the picture. This included an electric and bass guitar,
keyboard player, and percussion by way of a conga drum. Many of the instrumental beats
were recreated with the remaining sounds like scratches filled in by the DJ. It’s interesting to
think how much we’ve been able to manipulate and produce new sounds with the rise of
technology and digital instruments. Disc Jockey’s now play a crucial role in many
performances whether as utility or being the headlining act. An extra step has been added to
the production of sound that use to be energy source, to vibrating element, resonating
chamber and lastly sound waves to your ear. While there was a keyboard player, this would
not be considered a chordophone as it might be used to emulate one but does not actually use
a stretched string between two points. Still, listening to the keyboard player live made it
sound no different in regards to the real thing. Using electrophones has largely replaced the
inconvenience of transporting the real thing, which is often huge and heavy. All this made a
great live performance possible which was like no other Hip Hop concert I’ve ever been to
before. I havn’t been to reggae concerts in the past but I imagine they couldn’t compare to this
legendary duo.
The song from the video is called “Count Your Blessings”. The theme of the song is exactly
what it sounds like, and is accompanied by heavy instrumentation. When Nas and Damian
Marley were concieving this album, I’m sure the always had planned to perform it with a live
band. While the DJ record scratching at the end wasn’t on the album song, it adds an extra
element to the live performance that is nice. The African roots of this album are very apparent
by the visuals in their song “Patience”. There are some nice touches of wood wind
instruments like flutes in this song that make it feel very whole to listen too. While these two
artists have strong mainstream influence, their music definitely doesn’t resemble anything
close to pop music. The lyrics of this song are also very political, suggesting idealistic views
and wisdom they’ve gathered from their careers and years of research. This was definitely a
concert that I will never forget, not only because of the skill and execution but in how
meaninfull and well instrumented it was. At first I was suprised that these two were still
touring an album made a couple years back but now I understand why they are still filling up
venues and continuing their trip around the world. I really resonate with their message as well.
My favorite music is the kind that makes a positive difference with a wholesome song
arrangement to accompany it. I think all of you will enjoy hearing their songs, as we all have
something in common. As they put, we are all just “Distant Relatives”!
Example 2
I listened to the band Paramore on October 10th in Bethlehem. I had planned to go
for a while at the suggestion of a friend, who met me there. The band defines their
music as alternative rock with pop influences, and they were on tour for their new
2017 album After Laughter. I knew some of their popular songs, but I did not know
the band as well as my friend. Paramore was founded in 2004 and currently consists
of Hayley Williams as the lead vocalist, Taylor York as a guitarist, and Zac Farro on
the drums. Guitars belong in the musical instrument group of chordophones,
whereas drums belong in the percussion group. In 2015, they won a Grammy Award
for Best Rock Song for the song “Ain’t It Fun”. After Laughter is the band’s fifth
album.
Comparing this album to their previous ones, I noticed that it has much more of
pop sound. Paramore’s old songs had more of a punk rock vibe, appealing to the
stereotypical angsty teenager. The new songs sound more like something that could
be heard commonly on the radio, but they still have a unique sound. They include
more electronic editing and overall have a brighter vibe. This could be because of a
slower speed along with less minor chords. Major chords tend to maintain a bright
sound. However, the message of the music stays similar. Many of these songs are
about fighting against inner pain and heartbreak while accepting the joys of the good
things in life. Their music resonates primarily with teenagers and young adults. It
gives them a space to express themselves and connect with the artist. I also noticed
that the band sounds quite different live compared to the record. A lot of these songs
have synthesized noises and require a lot of vocal techniques that do not carry out
as smoothly during a live performance. The live songs almost sound incomplete due
to their difficulty. The musicians have to play their instruments while moving around
the stage. I believe musicians put synthesizers in their music these days for
popularity purposes. Our music evolved to include computers along with real
instruments. I think it is creativity naturally occurring, but at the same time real
instruments should not be abandoned. Overall, I enjoy this band’s music but prefer
their recorded versions to their live performances.
The songs I compare the recorded versions of are “Ignorance” (an old song) and
“Fake Happy” (a song on After Laughter). The live performance is of the song “Hard
Times”.
Example 3
My friend and I went to Hip- Hop concert, which was held by Just Music, that took
place in New York city on October 28. Just Music is a famous hip-hop label from
Korea and they were on the tour for their new album called “we effect”. “We effect” is
the label’s second compilation album and contains 10 songs. Some songs in “We
effect” album ranked high on Korean music chart and influenced a lot on Korean HipHop industry. Among the songs in the album, the song, “Carnival Gang” is the most
famous song because all the members of Just Music participated in this song. I was
so excited to see my favorite singers and it was my first to go to hip hop concert. I
am big fan of Just Music since I was at Korea because I was so fascinated by one
song from the leader of Just Music. There are 9 members who are Swings, Billstax,
Giriboy, Blacknut, Genius Nochang, Ossun Gum, CJamm, Han Yohan, and Goretax.
Swings is a leader and co founder of Just Music label as well. In these days, Hip hop
which is one of music genres, is getting popular and famous at Korea, many people
came to the concert. There are some reasons why Hip hop is getting popular at
Korea are that the tv show, “Show me the money”, influenced a lot and many hip hop
musicians are getting popular. The concert was started at 8 pm and the concert was
held at big club near from New York penn station. Even though I could not see the
singers on the stage well because of too many people in the concert, I could enjoyed
the concert because there were big screens and many speakers. There was live
band mixed with a DJ who turns on the beats. Because there was a live band that
produces new sound, I could enjoy the new version of the song because the songs
in album were made by beats and some electronic instruments. There were
keyboard players, guitar players, and drummer in a live band. One thing that I was
disappointed was that I could not concentrate on the lyric which is the most important
part of hip- hop because there were too many people screaming around me. Even
though I did not record the concert because I wanted to concentrate on the music, I
was so fascinated by one song that I wanted to share, which is “Phone digit” by
Swings.
The song, “Phone digit”, is one of famous songs by Swings and on the concert,
Swings, who is influential on Korean Hip-hop scene and leader of Just Music label,
was on the stage alone. The song is about how he misses his ex -girlfriend and
according to the interview he did, this song is his favorite song. Because this song is
too famous at Korea, most of audiences sing along with Swings.
