Solved by verified expert:In Fall 2011, Penn State’s Board of Trustees hired Louis Freeh, former FBI director, to carry out an internal investigation of how the University handed the sex abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky and how the University handled the allegations. “The Freeh Report” (the Report) is the result of that investigation. I am in a group and my part is to discuss the following from the mistake chosen (attached) by the group. Write the mistake management ideas and ways to mitigate consequences (cite sources) in the mistake chosen for discussion. I basically need to know what could have been done to prevent this mistake.I need at least 3 detail paragraphs.

Mistake:
Granting Sandusky emeritus status in August 1999
On May 3rd Sandusky assaulted Victim 6 in the Lasch Building showers. During the next two months a
botched (from our current outlook / I am open to a better way to phrase this) investigation was
conducted that led to an all but official exoneration of Sandusky. Around a year later Sandusky began
negotiations to retire while seeking a long-term relationship with the university. This results in the
awarding of Sandusky with the unusual (given his standing) title of emeritus.
The granting of emeritus status to Sandusky only allowed access to “University recreational facilities”.
While it is unclear if this included the specific use of “Old Lasch”, de facto this is what it came to mean.
The majority of Sandusky’s transgressions happened in this facility.
Implications:
•
•
•
•
Blatant disregard for standing university procedure of awarding emeritus status only to the
specified categories.
o This brings up questions of Cronyism between Sandusky and Spanier.
Ethical disregard for evaluation of the character of the individual being awarded emeritus status.
Bestowing of position on Sandusky such that he had free reign of facilities outside of standard
hierarchy
o Ability to use university resources to promote self-worth to victims
o Use of title status to excuse use of facilities (or prohibit) in the face of 2011 investigation
(Baldwin)
Sequestering (hording / Concealment) of action of the ED vis-a-vis the board
Antithesis:
Not having been granted the emeritus title, Sandusky would not have been able to use the Old Lasch
facilities to the frequency as reality has shown. This might not have precluded Sandusky’s assaults,
however it would have disbarred him from a level of prestige that supported his ability to conducts his
assaults.
