Video Games are Art
The medium of video games is becoming a postmodern art and ought to be regarded as
any other form of art. Video games have been currently undergoing a drastic shift from
the traditional video games. Artists have been able to come up with changes in
technology [such as? Mention them by name] and incorporate these changes into video
games. The video game is expected to advance [in what particular ways] with
advancement in technology. The video games are enhancing from day to day. A lot of
creativity and innovation has been seen in the world of games [such as? Briefly mention
those innovations here, then go into detail about them in one of your body paragraphs]. A
lot of artists are coming up with different ways of generating a better way of enhancing
the field of video games (Rogers, 2014). Children are provided with more detailed video
games. Most of them tend to communicate and build some social trends to the children.
They gain an opportunity to learn what happens in the world. It not only entertains but
also teaches the children. According to my point of view, it is wrong to say that video
games are not art.
Define what we think of when we think of the word/idea of “Art.” What
are the qualities of artistic works? How do we expect to think/feel
when we encounter art? Is art made using certain tools? Do we need
classes in art appreciation to be able to fully understand and value the
art we encounter? What are the similiarities between what we all
generally consider to be “art”, and video games? Why is it important
that we begin to view video games as art? Defining art, then defining
its relationship to how we define video games as art/ not art, and the
effect this has on how we view video games is a key part of your
argument, and should come early on in your essay to set the stage for
your argument that video games are art, too!
Currently, video games tend to incorporate art and science [. Technology has enabled the
artists to tell their stories, and create their artworks uniquely and outstandingly. First,
describe how many traditional artworks incorporate art and science. Mention the fact that
many traditional artworks we think of as “masterworks were created through the
application of new technological advancements, for example: Vermeer used mirrors and
camera obscura to help him paint; while Brunelleschi and Masaccio developed
architectural perspective to create accurate renderings of space from a viewer’s point of
view.
Now describe how the incorporation of art and science relates to video games: They have
been able to create an avenue for individuals to enjoy and experience life in a different
way. Video games now fit in the digital space. The video game can be painted and
brought out in a manner that cannot be compared with the traditional video games. They
include a combination of traditional artistic expression- sculpture in the form of 3D
modeling, dynamic music, illustration and narrative arcs. 2d images are also part of the
games for a better output. The video game has further gained the fact of being an art
through incorporating soundtracks and effects. The designers are now able to create a
flow of the game through drafting story arcs and dialogue. Those creating the game also
choreograph the moving pieces to create a seamless world. Therefore, the game is
developed with a lot of creativity and considerations. It is made to meet individual
specifications made by the designer. It thus makes it art.
Here, describe how people personally connect with art.
Then, here, describe how people personally connect with video games in a way similar to
how they connect to works of art: The video game has been able to achieve personal
connection. It is mostly felt in the artwork. Video game involves personalizing the artistic
experience. It has also been able to retain the authority of an artist (Patton, 2013). The
video game comprises of three major players that include the creator, the game, and the
player. The player is bound to follow the rules set by the author as they play the
game. In other words, they are following the story designed by the artist. The player
makes an entirely personal experience as they play. The player acts and reacts in the
game. The games offer the first person feeling. The personal connection with the game
makes it art (Redick, Unsworth, Kane, & Hambrick, 2017).
However, there are situations that draw video games away from being an art. It is only
due to the few individuals who come up with video games mainly for financial benefits.
It is not a crime to do so. They will have achieved their goal if they gain the economic
benefits. Compare this to 1) the fact that in the past artists frequently painted on
commission—art was made to satisify financial obligations to art patrons. Mention some
of the famous artists that had wealthy patrons financing their work. Also mention to how
much art sells for today, and include sale prices from art auction catalogues like
Christies,— let your reader know that art can be have a strong financial aspect, too.
For your conclusion, issue a call to action or make a prediction about art and video
games, discuss the implications if people continue to think of video games as something
other than art. What effect does not considering video games as art have on our definition
of art? Does it make it narrower? Why might a narrow definition of art have a negative
effect on art lovers and non-art lovers alike? Fortunately, the majority of the video games
are art. They do not primarily focus on winning the game. The video game will have the
goal of giving someone an experience. The video games have been incorporated into
rules, objectives and even with outcomes. With these elements, it ceases to be just a
game but also an art.
