Solved by verified expert:I need you to write a reply to this text. What do you like and why.Because health care protects life, it is a fundamental right and should therefore be ensured by the federal government.Health care is one of today’s most controversial topics, as people take on one side and debate on another. One side argues that health care protects life, and should be ensured by the federal government, while the other side argues that health care is a privilege and should not be provided by the government because of the high cost involved. Regardless of whether the health care is expensive, it is one of the responsibilities the federal government should ensure for the general welfare of the public. One of the points in the textbook that I found it to be somewhat controversial is where Ferrell, Fraedrich, and Ferrell (2015) states, “Critics argue it is the individual’s responsibility, not the government’s, to ensure personal health” (p. 297). While the critics do have a point, one of the factors that they failed to consider is that not all people are born under the same circumstances. What if one were to born with a disease or disorder inherited by the genes of their parents? Critics should know well that some of the diseases/disorders cannot be treated and even if it can be treated, it will take some time. On the other hand, if it is some issues that n individual has control of, such as obesity or diabetes, then it is their responsibility to choose a healthier lifestyle. According to the CDC (2017), there has been a decline in the percentage of persons of all ages without health insurance coverage at the time of interview, from 16% in 1997 to about 8% as of 2006 (p. 120). Furthermore, the CDC states that there were 28.2 million, or 10.4 percent of people under the age of 65 and uninsured at the time of interview. While 10.4 percent may sound minimal, but considering the entire population of the United States, it is a lot, and something that the federal government should do something. Also, “everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of oneself and one’s family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care” (Ferrell et al., 2015, p. 297). As stated earlier, it is the government’s responsibility to promote the general welfare and well-being to the public, no matter how expensive health care is.
