PowerPoint Assignment and Participation Assignment 6 forum are connected.
PA6 states your approved artist. Check again to see if your chosen artist has
been approved and any comments left for you. Do NOT change your artist choice
after approval.
Warm-up: If you have not created a PowerPoint in the past here are a few rules.
Keep your facts, ideas in answering the questions in bullet points. Do not write in full
sentences.
Also, use the visual image to your advantage. Each PowerPoint slide should have text
to make your presentation as impactful yet easy to read as possible.
Supplies:
1. Microsoft PowerPoint program. This assignment submission opens during the
week stated on the schedule.
2. Access to images via Internet or textbook.
Guidelines:
1. Cite your sources. Provide this information on your last PowerPoint slide.
1
2. You must have at least four sources but you may have as many sources as
you like.
3. This is a must: One source must be your textbook, A World of Art, 8th edition
regarding the artist medium/media.
4. No word count is involved with this assignment; however, you should have at
least nine (9) slides plus your sources cited slide to answer all the questions
or statements asked.
5. A zero (0) will be given on the entire assignment if the corrected, final
assignment is plagiarized. I want to read your words not someone
else’s.
6. All text on a slide must fit within the slide itself. If I cannot read the text
provided I do not grade it.
Directions:
Discuss your artist’s work in this slide order. Write any text in bullet points
that does not exceed three bullet points per slide.
If you are experiencing difficulties, contact the HCC library or HCC online
tutors for help in researching your topic.
Regarding images, use only of the artwork from the textbook and images from
and of the artist. Since, this class is about the visual arts your PowerPoint should
showcase the artist’s work. Highlight the one work that is from the book you
have chosen but you may also show the artist’s other works as auxiliary
examples. You may place your text bulleted points on top of these images.
1) State your name and the CRN of your class (see the first page of your syllabus
for this information)
2) State the artist and the title of the work (put in italics or underline) and the page
number from your textbook. Show an image of your chosen artwork.
3) Use a quote from the artist summing up the artist’s work. Keep quotes to a
minimum.
4) Who is the artist? What is the artist background? What influenced them to
become an artist? Feel free to contact the artist if possible and use this in your
PowerPoint.
2
5) What social issues was the artist addressing? Discuss the conditions, time, etc.
dealing with the social issues happening at the time. For instance, riots, climate
change, new technologies, etc. Also, state dates when these events occurred.
6) How did the artist work respond to the social issue? What is the artist message
pertaining to this artwork? Did the artist read about the event, did it affect them
personally, how?
7) What effect did the artwork have on the issue? If known/ if any? Did the artwork
have a dramatic on social perception? Did attitudes change much later or were
attitude shifts quick.
8) Discuss the medium used to create the artwork. Please discuss the medium and
techniques used to create the artwork. You should consult your textbook for this
information.
9) Advantages and disadvantages of the medium. All media have advantages and
disadvantages in using the material i.e. price of material or construction,
longevity, etc. What are the pros (advantages) and cons (disadvantages) to
using that particular medium or techniques? You should have a minimum of
four advantages and disadvantages each.
10) Describe the techniques and equipment/ tools in using this medium. Know and
use the vocabulary associated with the medium, techniques. Explain the various
vocabulary words associated with your topic.
11) Sources cited page in MLA format. Please give all the four sources cited with
Henry Sayre’s A World of Art, 8th edition as one of them. It is extremely
important to cite your sources correctly.
If you are having difficulty citing your sources after viewing Owl Purdue site:

This grading rubric adheres to the above closely. Please read and follow instructions
carefully.
These instructions are meant to take the subjectivity out of the grading process.
If you feel restricted creatively, create another PowerPoint but submit the
assignment artwork to receive credit. Since this PowerPoint is done for a grade, I
must grade as objectively as possible. A grading rubric assists in the final grade.
