Christian Character Sportsperson Rubric
This evaluation of a religious sports person is a critical evaluation paper in which you
point out examples of how sports figures, either current or past, state and demonstrate
how they embody Christian character traits and how these are demonstrated in their life
in and out of their sport. This evaluation ultimately helps us understand the relationship
athletes have with their own religious views, enhancing the course content. It should
include the following:
1.) Introductory paragraphs where you introduce the reader (me) to the athlete. You
should include:
– Information about who the athlete is.
– What they have done in their sport (what they are famous for)?
– Introduce the Christian character trait(s) you are applying in the paper.
2.) Three to four paragraphs where you discuss the relationship this athlete has/had with
their religion, citing relevant examples and evidence to support the impact their religion
has had in their lives (on and off the field of play). You want to consider:
– What are the relationships between the sportsperson and their religion?
– What is the relationship their religions has/had in their sporting life?
3.) Two to three paragraphs where you discuss how you see the relationship of the athlete
with the Christian character trait(s) you are focusing on. You may wish to include more
examples of how the athlete and others have described the impact of these traits in their
life.
4.) A summary paragraph where you summarize the preceding paragraphs, one that
brings the paper to a close.
Your review should be a single spaced, 1000 word typed pages (please no longer
than four pages) on any sports figure. Please use some citing method when using
external sources.
I will be grading for major writing errors such as spelling, unclear sentences,
fragmented ideas, etc. which will subtract from your overall grade. Please proof
read this assignment, even read the paper aloud to hear if it makes sense. If you
need additional help please ask.
