There should be better laws, and sufficient funding put in place to fight Trafficking. It is a growing epidemic in the 21st century. Baker says that “some people, and even President Barack Obama, say sex trafficking is considered as modern-day slavery”. The Trafficking Victims Protection Act is Covered under the 13th Amendment in America that abolished slavery and even more disturbing that slavery is still considered a problem. Also, other countries have not adopted the laws, and regulations to protect trafficking victims. The biggest victims of Human trafficking are usually women and children, also men, and often leads to sexual exploitation, or forced labor, however, in other countries some people do it willingly. These victims are usually held against their will and used for financial gain amongst other inhumane acts. Human Trafficking can be eliminated by increasing funding and a change in laws. The world of human trafficking has become a source of violations to human rights in today’s society. Logan et al says “Human trafficking, at its most basic level, is defined by the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 as (a) the recruitment, harboring, transporting, supplying, or obtaining a person for labor or services through the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of involuntary servitude or slavery; or (b) sex trafficking in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform sex acts is under 18 years of age” ( pg 4 par 5 ). Since 2000 the Federal government has been actively involved with combating Human Trafficking, however is has met complex issues is solving the problem. The Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000 was implemented to combat international trafficking, but failed to address domestic trafficking. Strauss adds “This common misconception explains, in part, how domestic trafficking has, until recently, failed to gain serious attention from the federal government, and thus why it has been able to increase in the United States.” Logan, T. K., Robert Walker, and Gretchen Hunt. “Understanding Human Trafficking in the United States.” Trauma, Violence, & Abuse, vol. 10, no. 1, 2009, pp. 3-30.Strauss, Lindsay. “Adult Domestic Trafficking and the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.” Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy, vol. 19, no. 2, 2010, pp. 495.
