Critical Reflection Assignment
Instructions and Grading Rubric
The Critical Reflection Assignment is intended to provide you with an opportunity think critically about
some of the concepts we have addressed in our course. Reflection is a cognitive process that allows you
to identify issues, state opinion, express feelings, and beliefs. You are expected to support your ideas
and reflections with appropriate citations outside the readings from class. This assignment is worth 25
points. You will submit 2 of these Critical Reflection Papers in the course and together they are worth
15% of your grade.
Instructions: For the first critical reflection assignment due in Module 3 on Sunday at 11:59, identify an
issue raised by the Henrietta Lacks case and one specific concept or area of content we have covered in
the Modules 1, 2, or 3 that you want to reflect critically upon.
For the second critical reflection assignment, due in Module 5 on Sunday at 11:59, you will identify an
issue raised in one of the clinical conditions covered in Module 5 and one specific concept or area of
content we have covered in Modules 4 or 5 that you want to critically reflect about.
For each of the 2 topics you have chosen for this assignment, address the following questions:
1.
2.
3.
4.
What did you learn? (I learned that…..)
How did I learn it? (I learned this through)
What does it matter to me as a nurse? (This learning matters to me because….)
What will I do in my future as a nurse in light of this learning? (In light of this learning, I will….)
For each topic, you should write between 400-500 words or about a page and a half for each topic. (or a
a total of 800-1,000 words for both topics-about 3 typed pages for the entire assignment) Divide your
paper into the two topics you are going to cover and use the 4 questions above as your subheadings.
For example, “What did you learn?” would be your first subheading. You can begin the first sentence of
that section with “I learned that…..”.
