Improving Health Status of Undeserved Children
“A truly moral health care system should start out by covering all of its citizens with
basic health care. It would not be seduced by its technology and fancy buildings” (Lamm, 2017).
Some would use the phrase, “there is more than one way to skin a cat” and in this case, there are
different ways to assess the health status in an undeserved neighborhood in Houston. The
purpose of this paper is to discuss the most beneficial way to assess the health status of children
in an underserved neighborhood in Houston and discuss why this method is recommended.
The method team six recommend is to apply the evidence based management model. The
very first step to this process is to “frame the research question in a way that captures relevant
elements of the proposed intervention, desired outcome, setting, time frame, and population of
concern” ( Kovner, Fine, D’Aquila, 2009). Applying this first step would allow the context to be
set. Also, it allows for an analysis to take place, specifically with this case study a meta- analysis
which focus on the current data regarding most traditional maternal and child health indicators,
such as, distribution of births and birth rates, unmarried mothers under the age of 18, low birth
rates, infant’s death, etc. Another step that is helpful in this particular model is step 5, which is,
assessing the action ability of the evidence and applying it to decisions. The reason why this
particular step is so important to the reason this model is recommended is because decision
making involved in defining interventions is a critical key and played a major part in the case
study of improving the health status of underserved children.
Abdul Kalam once stated that, “Let us sacrifice our today so that our children can have a
better tomorrow” (2017). The reason for to make this world a better place, so that all children
can have a better life, a better future and a better tomorrow. Furthermore, this is one of the
reasons why this team recommends applying this model of evidence-based management
leadership to this particular case study. The purpose of this paper was to discuss the more
beneficial way to assess the health status of children in an underserved neighborhood in Houston.
In addition, the reason why this method is recommended was addressed as-well.
