Picture yourself at a party surrounded by friends when the host’s grandmother comes into the
room bagging for water. Everyone in the room continues their conversation and avoids eye
contact with the suffering grandmother. Once she collapses and appears dead, someone decides
to phone 911. This event may sound far-fetched but every year during a heat wave our
grandparents living alone are at risk of dying from heat related illnesses such as dehydration. It’s
time Toronto starts behaving like a real community again. Be part of this change by visiting
heatwavetoronto.ca and see how you can protect those who deserve our attention.
Radio PSA
Parents, do your children spend more time in front of the TV or playing
video games? Have they put on weight because they are less active?
The United States is currently facing a childhood obesity crisis, as one in
every five children in the U.S. is overweight or obese. Children who struggle
with weight face major health problems including asthma, diabetes, and
depression.
If you see your child becoming less active, now is the time to get them
moving. Start going for walks, sign them up for physical activities, or cut
down their time spent in front of the TV. There are many ways to help your
kids get out from in front of the TV and get their bodies in motion. Don’t
