PRO & CON ARGUMENT: One of the greatest challenges of a Critical Thinker is to be capable of
objectively considering both sides of an argument free of any subjective personal bias or prejudice. As a
society, we expect this ability from Criminal Justice professionals ranging from Police Officers to Judges.
Historically, it is a necessary, but often difficult standard to meet.
This assignment presents you with an opportunity to develop two arguments with each supporting a
different conclusion. The topic of your arguments is ‘nuclear power’. Your ‘PRO’ argument will offer
evidence[premises] that support the conclusion that nuclear power use is a positive act by Society and
should be used more. Your ‘CON’ argument will offer evidence[premises] that support the conclusion
that nuclear power is a not a positive act by Society and should be illegal. NOTE! These are two[2]
separate arguments you are developing. They will be graded separately and are worth 50 points each.
Assuming that you currently have some form of personal opinion on nuclear power, which you have the
right to, a major test of your arguments will go as follows. Anyone reading your two arguments will not
be able to determine what your ‘personal’ [PRO or CON] opinion on the issue is. That is a high test of
OBJECTIVITY.

Your first step will be to gather [relevant & reliable] data on your topic – NUCLEAR POWER.
You will need to discriminate & organize your data as either ‘PRO’ or “CON’.
