Expert answer:project: https://www.globalgiving.org/microprojects/empower…LLCF requests Mini-Grant Proposals for up to $500 to support promising projects showcased on these sites. Each Mini-Grant Proposal should be no longer than one page (single spaced, no smaller than 11pt font, and with one-inch page margins) and should contain three sections: 1. OVERVIEW: This section should provide a clear and succinct description of the proposed project in 75 words or less. 2. JUSTIFICATION: This section should provide a careful and detailed justification for the proposed project. Key concepts from development economics should be incorporated in the discussion of the potential of the proposed project to reduce poverty and succeed as a development intervention that benefits specific families and/or children. This section should also discuss possible spillover benefits to those who are not direct beneficiaries (i.e., who else may benefit from this project and how?). Most successful development projects benefit specific families and children—either directly or indirectly. While proposed projects need not target children explicitly, clear justification should be provided that addresses how the proposed project will benefit children. It is recommended to include discussion of the overall cost-effectiveness of the project (i.e., the expected impact of the project relative to its costs) as part of the justification.3. BUDGET & ADMINISTRATION: This section should include the proposed budget (up to $500) and a brief evaluation of the project sponsor or partner organization (e.g., microfinance institution, NGO, etc.). Be specific about why this sponsor or partner has been chosen. In order to be specific, additional background research on the organization may be required. This section should be 100 words or less.

Poverty Mini-Grant Proposal
ARE/ECN 115A, Fall 2017
Travis Lybbert
Throughout this quarter you have studied several dimensions of economic development. In this
assignment, you will work in teams of two or three on a specific project you choose from one of the two
websites linked below: Kiva and GlobalGiving. Your team will explore how the project relates to
development topics we have covered this quarter and compose a one-page Mini-Grant Proposal in
response to the Request For Proposals (RFP) below.
In order to get a balance of projects from the two websites and to avoid duplication of projects, your team
is required to post a comment in the Canvas discussion called ‘Mini-Grant Proposal Website Choice’ that
states which website you plan to use and the title of the project you propose to support on this website
(e.g., Kiva: Dxn Group, https://www.kiva.org/lend/1404930).
There is a Canvas discussion titled “Finding partners for Mini-Grant Proposal” that you can use to
connect with other students who need partners. Please have your team formed by Friday December 1st
at the latest. It is highly recommended, however, to form a team earlier than this deadline so you can start
working on the assignment earlier!
Before choosing a project, please check the discussion to make sure there is a mix of both sites and that
your intended project has not already been claimed. If most teams before you have posted one site, try to
find a project on the other site.
After your team is organized and you choose a project to propose, post a comment in the discussion
consisting of the following information:
• Your website choice—either Kiva or GlobalGiving
• The name and link for the project page
• The names of all team members (including the person writing the post) as they appear on Canvas
• The name of your group. Pick a name, any name!
Based on this information, your team will be organized on Canvas as a group for the assignment. This
will allow you to be able to submit one document for your team.
Your team’s Mini-Grant Proposal is due at the beginning of class on Thursday, December 7th. Bring a
printed copy to class that day. Each Proposal will be graded based on the overall quality of writing (30%),
how well you use concepts from development economics to justify your proposed project in the
JUSTIFICATION section (60%), and your evaluation of the partner organization in the BUDGET &
ADMINISTRATION section of your proposal (10%). Please take these grading criteria into account
carefully as you prepare your proposal (e.g., the quality of the writing and composition matters!). Your
proposal should be organized into the following three sections: Overview, Justification, and Budget &
Administration. See below for details on these.
The top 10 Mini-Grant Proposals will be considered for funding. One or two of these top proposals will
be funded. Whether your team’s proposal is funded or not, you can subscribe to receive periodic updates
about the project from the partner organization or sponsor.
REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
In the past few years, innovative and talented young people have created some clever ways to address
various aspects of poverty by harnessing the power of the internet to disseminate information and connect
people. The Lynne Lybbert Children’s Fund (LLCF) is interested in using two such websites—
www.kiva.org and www.globalgiving.org—to fund small but meaningful projects that benefit specific
families and/or children.
LLCF requests Mini-Grant Proposals for up to $500 to support promising projects showcased on these
sites. Each Mini-Grant Proposal should be no longer than one page (single spaced, no smaller than 11pt
font, and with one-inch page margins) and should contain three sections:
1. OVERVIEW: This section should provide a clear and succinct description of the proposed project
in 75 words or less.
2. JUSTIFICATION: This section should provide a careful and detailed justification for the
proposed project. Key concepts from development economics should be incorporated in the
discussion of the potential of the proposed project to reduce poverty and succeed as a
development intervention that benefits specific families and/or children. This section should also
discuss possible spillover benefits to those who are not direct beneficiaries (i.e., who else may
benefit from this project and how?). Most successful development projects benefit specific
families and children—either directly or indirectly. While proposed projects need not target
children explicitly, clear justification should be provided that addresses how the proposed project
will benefit children. It is recommended to include discussion of the overall cost-effectiveness of
the project (i.e., the expected impact of the project relative to its costs) as part of the justification.
3. BUDGET & ADMINISTRATION: This section should include the proposed budget (up to $500)
and a brief evaluation of the project sponsor or partner organization (e.g., microfinance
institution, NGO, etc.). Be specific about why this sponsor or partner has been chosen. In order to
be specific, additional background research on the organization may be required. This section
should be 100 words or less.
