Expert answer:Module 05 Course Project Analyzing Data and Writin

Expert answer:In this portion of the course project, you will analyze your data in the following ways:Effectively record data, back-up the data and store a master copy – keeping original data intact.Sum the number of ratings, rankings, yes or no, etc. for each question.Find the mean, or average, for each question.Find the standard deviation and the z-score for each question.Infer results or draw conclusions.Note: You do not need to submit your analysis separately, instead, you will include your analysis in your written report (the tenth element of the written report). Remember that your analysis can (and likely should!) include important visual aids for your readers, including charts, graphics, and tables.Based upon your analysis, develop recommendations, think about limitations of the research, and write your final report. The report should include the following elements:Cover pageExecutive summaryTable of contentsIntroductionProblem statementResearch objectivesBackground research/literature reviewSampling designResearch designData analysis (may include visual aids – bars, charts, graphs, etc).LimitationsFindingsConclusionsRecommendationsReferencesBe sure to distinguish between the various sections of the report by utilizing headings. Each of the 15 elements will be a major heading, which should be bolded and centered. If minor headings are used, they should be bolded and aligned left. The cover page, executive summary, table of contents, and reference page should all be on stand-alone pages.Keep in mind, a number of these elements were previously submitted. Be sure to review the feedback you received from your instructor and make recommended edits or updates. Also, consider restructuring the written elements as needed in order to include them in the final report (for example your problem statement may have stated what you will research, and now it is something you have researched, so your tense may change). The report should be written according in APA style. Learn more about APA formatting here. There is no length requirement, but most reports will be approximately 8 pages; your report may be longer depending on the demands of research and analysis conducted. The cover page, table of contents, and references page are should not be included in the page count. The executive summary may be included in the page count.

Thesis
The company that I chose for potential improvement is Wal-Mart. I feel that WalMart’s customer service is very poor. Every time I walk in there it does not seem like the
employees are happy to work there and thus affects the customer service. So what I would like
to accomplish in this research is to find out: Why Wal-Mart employees always seem unhappy
to be at work? Does it affect the customer service at the company?
Methods of Research
The methods of research I intend to utilize for this project are as follows:

Case Studies – I will research online reviews of former and current employees to
determine if I can figure out why they are unhappy. This will consist of both
qualitative and quantitative research.

Content Analysis/Documentation Review – I will attempt to find company documents
to verify the reviews I read and the interviews I do. Maybe the benefits are not good
enough to give reason to why the employees do not seem happy. This will also consist
of qualitative and quantitative research.

Interviews- I plan to interview a couple of Wal-Mart employees that I know personally
and get their reasons why they are unhappy/happy. This will be qualitative research
because I will be collecting data from the employees.

Variables
Some of the variables that I need to account for are: Happy Employees,
Misinformation in company documents, unhappy employees that have never been happy at a
place of employment.

The link above is from the Wal-Mart website and it explains what it is like, in WalMart’s eyes, to work for the company. It explains a very broad overview of the some the
benefits that you receive when you are hired on as a Wal-Mart employee. It then goes in to
explain the company culture from a corporate perspective and what the values and behaviors
that the company wants to portray to future and current employees. Last but not least it gives
the potential applicant some statistics about employment at Wal-Mart. It is like the companies
brag sheet.

The article above is referencing Wal-Mart’s attempts to silence those who speak out
about changes that Wal-Mart needs to make. Wal-Mart employees from around the world
protested about the negative impacts that the silencing is having on their families, the
economy, and the company’s bottom line. It also goes on to state how much profits Wal-Mart
is taking in and how much its paying its corporate executives, and the wage gap that the
company has.

This article talks about how Wal-Mart cut healthcare coverage for employees and the
fight to make Wal-Mart change it health policy. The company claims that it can afford decent
health coverage, but the family who has made their fortune from the work of Wal-Mart
employees spends huge sums of money on things like the Crystal Bridges Museum of Art.

Here is the leading job site website in the country right now, indeed.com. Here
employees and former employees can review the company and comment about their job.
When doing the research and reading the reviews I was surprised to find that out of 118,527
reviews that Wal-Mart received a 3.6 star rating out of 5 stars. I don’t think that it is that bad
considering the amount of reviews left.

Investigative questions
There was a need to come up with different questions that required to be answered by the
company’s management. The different investigative questions that I came through encompass
the following;

3
How come when you visit Wal-Mart there is no anyone to help? This is a significant
question that needs to be very well analyzed. It is impossible to shop in such a large
organization and yet there is no anyone to help you. In order to answer these questions,
it is important to approach one of the managers of the organization.

How come nobody knows where anything is whenever customer asks for it? This
investigative question is the best to explain that the employees in the company are not
willing to help the customers. It sounds ironic for employee not to have knowledge of
the products that they sell within the organization.

Why it is that everybody who works in the organization is grouchy and surly? In
organizations, employees need to be very friendly to the customers. However, in WalMart, it has been the vice-visa. Employees are high tempered and they do not respect
the customers who shop in the organizations.
Measurement questions
The questions are meant to question if Wal-Mart can make it when the customer service is
that bad.

Is it possible for Wal-Mart to make enough profits when the customer service is bad?
The possible answer to this question is definitely no because when customers are not
treat well, it likely that they will find other organizations were customer service is of
top-notch.

Does Wal-Mart have poor customer service because there is no other competitor in the
market? This is a direct question that does not need a lot of intervention. Wal-Mart is
facing competition from several organizations in the same industry like Amazon.

Measurement scale(s)

Based to the measurement scale, I was able to visit indeed.com whereby employees
4
and former employees can review the company and comment about their job.
Amazingly, I was surprised to find out that of the 118,527 stars, Wal-Mart had received
a 3.6 star rating out 5 stars. However, this was according to the employees review since
they considered themselves to have served the customers with great respect. Even
though I did not have enough information about customer experience, I think that in
today, the customer service has gone down.

The likely participants included the employees, and former employees who worked for
the company. In accordance with the employees, I was able to understand that culture
is among the leading factor as to why the service is so bad. Many employees in the
company are of different culture and may not be interested in serving other individuals.
In my visit to the company, I had to interview several employees who articulated on
the same.

During the research, I was able to come across potential. For example during the
interview, I did not collect the possible accurate information as needed because some
of the employees provided me with in accurate information. They concentrated only on
the positive side rather than the negative side. In order to compensate for or explain
errors, I had to approach different customers who had witnessed the same issues like
me, even though most of them did not have much time.
