Expert answer:INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS THEORY 6

Expert answer:Topic international relations theory Post 1The lesson seven notes show examples of how free trade affects everyone involved and while some will benefit others will suffer the consequences of it. According to realists anarchy will make states concerned about free trade. It is true becoming dependent on an important good from another state isn’t good. One example made is if there is a conflict between these two states they both experience the ripple effects. The state importing the important goods will now need to find another state to obtain the goods from. The state exporting the goods will now have to find another state to rely on selling the goods to. It isn’t good for states to rely on each other for certain goods and it is important to have another way to get these necessary goods from another state as a backup plan. (Lesson 7 Notes)Free trade has its benefits and consequences coming with it so it can be considered as more of a double edged sword. One compelling example I found was when Sugar was being used as an example. The addition of tariffs on foreign sugar products was a compelling example because it helps the American producers of sugar by choking out its foreign competition of sugar producers. This helps American sugar producers while foreign sugar producers suffer and search elsewhere to export their sugar product. Americans who buy the sugar are also affected because they end up paying a higher price for the American produced Sugar. A tariff can have two different meanings it can either be an additional tax towards an imported/exported product and it can also be known as a fixed price. I have to agree with the Neo-Marxist theory on there being inequalities through this systemic theory but after reviewing the alternative theories neither if these can be described as perfect. (Lesson 7 Notes)Another compelling example used was using Saudi Arabia and its main export being oil. Oil is one of the most important goods and this everyone can agree on. Saudi Arabia having one of the biggest oil reserves in the world will soon need to rely on a new source of income after its oil reserves are depleted. The states relying on Saudi Arabia as a main source for oil will also need to search elsewhere to replenish its supply for oil. It is also important for those states solely relying on Saudi Arabia for oil to have other options just in case relations turn sour with trade partner Saudi Arabia. If Saudi Arabia was a state in the world having the only oil reserves then it would be end very badly if one day good relations ended because there would be no other state to import oil from. One important topic mentioned is how Saudi Arabia is a desert so it relies on international partners for food supply. Saudi Arabia might have some of the largest oil reserves in the world but it can’t feed its people with oil. The Saudi government must maintain good relations with other states for this reason since a desert isn’t the most habitable location or fertile grounds for agriculture. (Accessed 20 December 2017)Post 2Since this is more based on opinion or perspective and possible belief, I see that there are too many inequalities and economic underdevelopments throughout the world. There are many nations that have very little wealth and security, some of it may be caused by civil disputes that disrupted the internal affairs of the state. In a world that many nations rely on other nations for support or supply of goods, others nations may suffer due to their own lack of supplies and resources (natural gas, water, etc). The continent of Africa suffers from many inadequate living standards which include health, education, resources, and life expectancy as it was explained in our reading material. The main point is that less privileged nations may not receive some of the benefits of much more developed and modern nations for a multitude of reasons that are involved with international trade even though through past decades international trade barriers have decreased. The Neo-Marxist theory explains and focuses on not just political and economic interactions but also the “class-collusion between elites in the advanced industrialized states (which were commonly referred to as the “core” in the neo-Marxist literature) and the elites in the developing world” (Lesson 7). The theory is that the elites are in it with top end politicians in order to maintain “their economic interests, at the expense of the population of the periphery – a process known as cooptation (lesson). Such scenarios still occur to this day everywhere throughout the world and it is no surprise due to the multiple exploitations that have been reported internationally and makes sense of their viewpoints in the causes of unequal distribution of wealth in both domestic and international affairs.Overall the arguments from others claim that the economic underdevelopments are due to unit-level attributes in which I still concur with. I believe everything is connected to one another in a classical round spider web fashion, so in essence I also agree with the idea that economic underdevelopments are also connected to unit-level attributes. Both examples are compelling to me because I do not think that there is always a single answer to everything, maybe that is why our comprehension of unexplainable phenomenon (space, science, biology, etc) or economic and political problems become difficult. What I am insisting is that both make good points and I do not have a deeper explanation of which example I prefer more than the other.
