Instructions for the Power Point Presentation
For your power point presentation, you will need to create a virtual presentation of the topic you
have developed in the first assignment (museum project). The aim of this presentation is to show
your ability to focus on the most important aspects of your first paper and be able to elaborate them
with elements like maps, photos, diagrams and chronological charts. Your goal is to create a
presentation as if you were given a talk of short duration in public. Please use Microsoft Power
Point, which is the most common software. Your presentation should be up to 8 – 10 min. long and
include various forms of images: the archaeological object itself, photos of historical persons or
events associated with the specific artwork, geographical maps and whatever you think it is
relevant for supporting your presentation – Be creative! Finally, you can also insert very short
videos (1-2 min.) and of course bullet points of the main ideas of your first paper.

Part 1
A scientific study of human culture and also their behavior from the beginning of humans
up to the present (Economou, 2015) called Archeology. The study is through examination of
remains of the material of previous human societies. They include artifacts, ruins of buildings,
fossils of humans, and also items such as pottery, jewelry as well as tools. The primary aim of
archeology is to reconstruct past human ways of life. It is a crucial field of anthropology, which
refers to the study of human biology and human culture.
My object belongs to wall painting category. It illustrates the story of the whale and
Jonah found in both the Bible and the Quran (Economou, 2015). Jonah has been in the stomach

of the whale for three days. All his clothes have either been digested or worn out in the stomach.
The painting shows that he comes out of the stomach naked. An angel clothed in purple and red
hands him some clothes to wear. Angels have been described as human beings who have wings,
and they can fly. The angel in the painting looks like one who is in the air holding some clothes
intended to cover Jonah’s nakedness. The whale is about to spat Jonah in a dry land. The
whale’s body is in the water while its head is on top of the water. Above Jonah is a gourd vine
that grows believed to be sent by God as protection from the sun. The object was made in c 1400
in Iran. It is made of Codices, gold, ink, manuscripts, metal, paintings, paper, silver and
watercolor. The strong palette and impressive figures reflect a lost wall painting tradition.
The architect is not mentioned. This painting aims to remind the people of the story of
Jonah. Jonah represents a man who was sent to go to Nineveh by God to ask the people to repent
and leave their evil ways. Jonah hated the people of Nineveh because he knew that they were
evil. He wished the wrath of God to fall upon them. He also knew the nature of God; He’s full of
mercy and would forgive them if they repented. He did not want them forgiven. He wanted God
to kill all of them so they could perish from the earth. He declined to going to Nineveh and
boarded a boat to another city. He wanted to run away from God by disobeying Him. However,
God caused a strong wave almost to capsize their boat. The people inside realized that God’s
wrath was upon them. They cast votes to determine who had wronged God. Jonah confessed and
was thrown into the water. A whale swallowed him for three days. It then spat him in Nineveh
and dry land. The Angel gave him a garment to hide his nakedness. God also made a vine tree
grow to cover him from the sun. The architect uses colors to paint his large-scale painting. Some
colors shine more than others. Some are pale. For instance, the ones used to paint the whale. The

angel appears to be on top of the whale and Jonah appears to be partially in the whale’s mouth.
It’s to illustrate a clear picture of the situation.
Part 2
At the time this artifact was made, the country was politically stable. We can tell because
the architect has taken his time to painting some relevant drawings (Falk, & Dierking, 2016). He
wouldn’t have made such a painting if the country was not stable. Anybody can read the painting
and get the story behind it. The object is made of expensive materials such as gold, silver,
watercolors, and metal. It shows that the country was economically stable at the time the object
was made. The person who made it was also economically stable to have been able to use such
expensive material. The architect must have had targeted consumers of his art. It means that
people were interactive at the time the art was made (Falk, & Dierking, 2016). The message in
the painting aimed at sensitizing people on the consequence of disobeying God. The people were
socially stable and ready to learn from one another. The historical events at the time were that
people were still practicing things that did not please God and that is why the architect drew this
painting to remind them of the consequences of sin and disobedience.
Archeology is essential and relevant in our lives. It helps the people in widening their
understanding of humans and how they interacted with architecture and objects more than it is
written in history books. Archeology helps us describe things beyond history (Falk, & Dierking,
2016). People who are passionate about archeology have collected everything related to
archeology and put them together to form a museum. There are many museums all over the
world which boost the economy of countries by receiving visitors from both local and

international. They pay some fee to the government. Archeology helps us understand who we are
and where we are coming from.
