France Laws on Muslim Dress codes
The Islamic veil was introduced first in France in the 1980s.After the world war, Islamist
migrated into France and converted many people to practice their culture.one of the Islamic
religion introduced was the mode of dressing. Women were expected to dress in veils as it was
considered authentically Islamic. Women were found to be unique creatures who needed privacy
and could be kept away from the evil world through veils. Many of the Islamic ladies were much
into the new dress code even insisting on dressing in the same way in school and workplace.
In 1989, rebellion against the Muslim veils started. Muslim schoolgirls often insisted on
wearing their veils in the school compound. Teachers felt it was wrong and forbade them.
Teachers emphasized that the Islamic dress code tried to introduce Islamic dominance in the
learning environment. The schoolgirls insisted on wearing them hence creating a conflict within
the school environment. This incident spread everywhere and attracted the attention of the
government in power. Some citizens argued that schools girls should be allowed to dress the way
they want since they love it that way. Muslims believed rebellion on the veils was trying to
interfere with their religious freedoms which they always loved and cherished. Muslim students
wearing the veils still insisted on not attending any gym classes and not being thought anything
to do with Christianity.
The government in 1990 listened to both sides and came up with a decision of banning
Islamic veils in school. Those who were against the veil gave compelling reasons that made the
government easy to arrive at the decisions made. No religious symbols were allowed within the
learning environments. However, Muslim students could wear any discreet logo in school. Any
other form of Muslim dressing became legit outside the learning institutions during the holidays.
Full-face Any Islamic lady could wear veils provided it was not within the school compound.

Any contentious symbol was banned from school compound to ensure that no religious portrayed
in any way.
This bans did not happen in school only, in September 2010.A new law was to adopt in
parliament (Bano, 2012). The act stated that it was wrong for any individuals to cover their faces
in public. Individuals who could be affected by the new law were the Muslim women. Muslim
women got prevented from wearing the veils that cover their faces in public. Many people were
against this new law and felt it was now another form of intimidation of the Muslim culture.
Bano (2012) explains that the bill approval succeeded in October 2010.Anybody who wore veils
received a punishment of one-year imprisonment and a 30000 Euro fine.150 Euros could be
informed once the law became legit.
The new law took effect on 11th April 2011. France was the first state in the world to ban
full-face Islamic veil in any place that was in public. Anybody who needed to wear this veils
could just do it within their homesteads (Chetail & Bauloz, 2014). Funny enough, many women
in France did not have any fear of the ban. Some even enrolled on paying the fines every day
provided they wore the full-face vein. Records retrieved in 2015 showed that the government had
imposed 1546 fines .president Nicolas Sarkozy significantly supported the ban and claimed that
veils oppressed women and being the leader his state was not in support of such mode of
dressing.
In July 2014, a French woman filed a case in the European court of human rights court
against the laws. The woman argued that the statutes oppressed the Muslim women and went
against their freedom of religion and freedom of expression (Joly & Wadia, 2017). The ban was
upheld by the European court on the basis that every individual had a right to serve their

religious beliefs and express themselves in the way they want. This decision received a warm
welcome among the women who felt like the laws largely disadvantaged them in place.
France introduced another controversial ban in 2016.This ban stated that the women should not
wear known as the Burkinis. The Prime Minister Manuel Valls who speared the prohibition
termed the clothes as an introduction of political Islam to the public that had a neutral ground for
every individual (Joly & Wadia, 2017). However, the law did not effect for the long. The top
administrative court in France overruled the judge and termed it oppressive to the women.
Women needed to dress in any way they want no matter the kind of atmosphere they lived.
Even though some nations such as Belgium and Netherlands banned the Islamic veil,
France laws seemed so oppressive. Any country that prohibits women from dressing the way
they want can be termed to be abusing gender. However, the present France is a free country for
everyone. Any woman can wear anything they want to provide they do not interfere with the
rights of other people. Every individual practice their religion in their ways and thus need to get
respected provided they fulfill their worshiping rights. France is the best country to leave in now.
